Version: 2.1.0 (using KDE 4.7.2) OS: Linux Kile seems to replace every occurence of "ß" in the german dictionary with "ss". In Kate, words like "beißen" are correctly recognized, but Kile wants to correct "beißen" to "beissen", which is obviously wrong. This is true for every word I tried that contains the letter "ß". I'm using hunspell with the myspell-de dictionary, if that's important. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Use Kile with hunspell and myspell-de, enable de_DE dictionary, enter "beißen", spellcheck. Actual Results: "beißen" is underlined and "beissen" is proposed instead. Expected Results: "beißen" is recognized as correct Works fine in Kate.
I can't reproduce this here with Enchant + Aspell German dictionary. Did you also edit a LaTeX document in Kate?

Kile, Kate, KWrite is all the same when it comes to problems with the editor :) My guess would be that it's a problem with the dictionaries, i.e. hunspell + myspell. But we really have to be sure that it works fine with KWrite. It would be ideal if you could temporarily uninstall your current dictionaries and try out Enchant + apsell. My distribution unfortunately doesn't provide myspell packages, which seems a little outdated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySpell (For convenience, we can simply keep this bug report and move it to the respective component later on)
Old but obviously unresolved issue, because I'm experiencing quite the same behaviour. I tested some applications with "beißen" and "hassen" (correct spellings) as well as "beissen" and "haßen" (wrong spellings). All of them (Kile, Kate, KDevelop, KWrite) suggest "ss" for "beißen" and also for "haßen" with the former being obviously wrong. In my case Kate at first had another dictionary selected which did not complain about anything, but that one vanished after uninstalling and reinstalling all dictionaries (perhaps the same case as above?). The option was still there in KWrite, but also suggested nothing. Calling hunspell from console (hunspell -i utf-8 -d de_DE_frami) yields: Hunspell 1.3.2 beißen * hassen * beissen & beissen 2 0: beißen, bissen haßen & haßen 8 0: hassen, aßen, saßen, hauen, maßen, haben, haken, Maßen So obviously hunspell itself and the dictionaries are working. After that I uninstalled hunspell and all myspell dictionaries and installed aspell. This time all Kate derivates work with "Deutsch", but not with also listed dictionary option "Deutsch (Deutschland)", where nothing is checked at all. Console output of kile gives: kile(20448): No language dictionaries for the language : "de_DE_frami" The name of the dictionary is indeed de_DE and therefore using "Deutsch (Schweiz)" (de_CH) and "Deutsch (Österreich)" de_AT work perfectly. Unfortunately LibreOffice does not support aspell at all, so I would like to run hunspell properly as in console mode.
