Description cmcgrath5035 2011-10-13 12:30:23 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.1)
OS: Linux

When at the KDE Greeter (login) dialog screen, I select Menu-Remote Login (or
alt-R, same result). An XDMCP Host Window opens displaying other machines on my
network that are up and willing to accept Xdmcp login. When I move the mouse
over the XDMCP Host Window to select a remote host, the widow closes and I am
returned to the normal login screen.

I have the same result on three different systems once upgraded to KDE47. All
worked fine when KDE46 and earlier.
I am able to login to the remote machines via the CLI using ssh ipaddress

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Boot openSuSE 11.4/KDE47
2.AT Greeter (login) screen, select Menu-Remote Login (or alt-R)
3.XDMCP Host Window opens, displaying hosts willing to accept login
4. Move mouse over the XDMCP Host Window, window disappears.

Actual Results:
Actual Results:
The XDMCP Host Window disappears, I am back at the normal login window. I am
able to login to the local machine.

Expected Results:
Expected Results:
I should be able to select a remote machine and start a remote X session

This procedure worked KDE46 and earlier

OpenSuse Bugzilla 715265
Ubuntu Bug #872761 looks to be the same

If possible, add a backtrace of the crash.
Comment 2 cmcgrath5035 2011-10-14 14:26:41 UTC
I would if I knew where to find it

I open a root console on VT1
Bring up the Switch Session greeter screen, select Menu-Remote, move
mouseover XDMCP window and it closes
But nothing on VT1

I have noted that whenever I get an update for the kdm package
I see warnings like this in /var/log/zypp/history:

# 2011-10-13 09:19:46 kdm-4.7.2-6.4.x86_64.rpm installed ok
# Additional rpm output:
# Warning: Do not know how to create missing GreeterUID user kdm
# Information: reading pre-existing kdmrc /usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc (config version 2.4)
#
2011-10-13 09:19:46|install|kdm|4.7.2-6.4|x86_64|root@PVE-LinuxSRV5|openSUSE_11.4|85b7a1c2e2096296827bcc7be73c613e4c4badbb845ef763c7f2cdb3fbad7b67

The basic greeter works OK (can login to local machine)
