Version: 3.4.2 (using KDE 4.6.5)
OS: Linux

When installing a theme from the online list of themes available, kdm fails to start saying "X is not a valid theme". No theme except the defaults work.

could this be a different manifestation of bug 255453? dunno whether gentoo tried to hack around it or you tried to manually work around the primary issue.
Comment 2 dE 2011-09-13 02:27:21 UTC
No. The themes do get installed, the folder in which theme is installed is present.

Also I first tried this as root.

KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5.

SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
