This happens on my Dell M4400 under Open Suse 11.3 64-bit
I boot, log on using the KDE desktop.
I am prompted for the wallet password for the WLAN. Then WLAN connects using WPA encryption.
When I activate VPN to University of Bergen IMMEDIATALY after this, this works fine.
If I have loaded another application, and THEN activate VPN, the K connection manager crashes 90 % of the time.

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.
