Created attachment 62369 [details] A screenshot of the bug Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.0) OS: Linux Currently when you have launchers in a task manager with multiple rows, the launchers take up the same amount of space as an ordinary task, even though they are only an icon. I have attached a screenshot of the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Add at least one launcher to the task manager 2. Increase the height of the panel 3. Open the task manager applet settings 4. Set the number of rows to 2 or more 5. Set "force row settings" to true Actual Results: The launchers take up an entire column in the task manager, wasting a lot of space Expected Results: The launchers only occupy the space of their icon. A suggested approach would be to have rows of launchers on the left, and a separate set of rows of tasks to the right. A mockup of this is attached.

Bug 283162 actually suggests to make the icons bigger to get rid of the space. I guess Plasma simply respects the Panel icon size, so if two icons fit, it should display two of them.
Making the icons bigger would still result in wasting a lot of space. Simply using small icons and pushing the tasks in that row to the right (or left depending on locale) would result in the columns not being lined up and the tasks being different sizes, which in my opinion would look ugly and make it harder to hit the tasks reliably. The approach in the mockup seemed to me to be the best way to preserve the formatting of the task manager, not waste space, and respect the user's settings.
I think, the size of the icon should depend on the amount of launcher icons and/or a setting for the launcher icons if they should be in one or more line (like there is for the processes itself).
