Description Mark 2011-07-30 16:35:23 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.7.0)
OS: Linux

The menubar should be either visible or hidden by default in all the applications that KDE SC by default provides. Perhaps there should also be a system wide setting to determine is the menubar should be hidden or visible by default as well.

Right now it's hidden in dolphin and visible in all other apps.

KWin is not responsible for window content -> reassign to best matching product

Thanx, Martin. I wasn't sure where to place the report in.. (same for a few other reports i made today)

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 211304 ***
Comment 4 Mark 2011-07-30 18:15:36 UTC
This one is now marked as duplicate, but this report is certainly not about having a menu icon like in firefox 5+ and opera 11+

This is about showing the menu bar yes/no.
Ok to reopen?

i'd suggest adding a comment on 211304 .. but they are too similar to deal with separately imho. they need to be addressed at the same time, and 211304 is probably the way to do so in a way that isn't painful for people.

No, it is "minimized" to a toolbar icon, and I marked the duplicate because bug 211304 requests that such a feature is available in kdelibs.

You can show/hide the menu bar in some apps, but not in all, but that's a different bug you reported (and should really be reported per application, and not kdelibs, because kdelibs _does_ support the show/hide menubar action, applications just have to use it).

Just to clarify: I will _not_ add a global option that makes applications start with the menubar hidden, _except_ if it would be replaced by a toolbar icon for the menu.

The reason is simple: If you start a newly installed application, you would have to hit Ctrl+M just to check if it offers a menu at all, then later Ctrl+M to hide it. Having it visible on initial start eliminates the first step.

If you still believe this is not a duplicate, please clarify further.
