Description wm 2011-04-05 11:49:39 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.1)
OS: Linux

After i created a distribution list/group in kaddressbook for the first time no name or address showed up when i reopened the group item. I found a hint in a forum, stopped akonadi, deleted ~/.config/akonadi and started akonadi again. After that kaddressbook could remember the distribution list/group entries.
The distribution list showed up in kmail, but no email addresses are available. When i send a mail to the distribution list, the recipient is "name of the distribution list"@hostname

Reproducible: Always

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.37-ARCH
Compiler: gcc

Works for me with KEPIM 4.6 and would be a dup of bug 268031.
Comment 2 engelup 2011-08-14 18:09:09 UTC
I found a work-around in a forum: Add an empty space before each name in the list.
(OpenSuse 11.4, kde 4.6.5 rel 7, kontact 4.4.11, kmail 1.13.7)

I am experiencing the same problem. I can create lists (aka groups) in "Contacts" but these lists are not usable from kmail.

When writing a mail, I can select the "list name" from my personal address book but this "list name" will not get expanded to the list of email adresses of this "group".

In the end the email server is rejecting the email because the destination address is in the form of "list name"@"my system name" instead of the list of addresses contained into the list.

I am using Ubuntu 11.4. This means Kontact 4.4.10, KaddressBook 4.4.10, and kmail 1.13.6, KDE 4.6.2

You need kdepim >= 4.6

Well, KDEpim 4.7 is comming with Ubuntu 10.10.

But it is still a pity that these bugs are not fixed in "stable" versions and that we are forced to upgrade the whole KDE/system to get a simple feature to work as advertised.

This issue have been fixed since kde 4.6. Please reopen and explain if you still experience this with recent KDE.
Comment 7 San 2012-10-04 05:39:28 UTC
this bug has never been fixed for me (kubuntu) and I have switched to TB the last 2 years.
today I've just tested the live CD of 12.10 Quantal Quetzal Beta 2 (64 bits) (KDE 4.9)
and the issue is exactly the same:

kmail tries to send emails to "mycontact@kubuntu" instead of expanding the contact group "my contact"
Comment 8 San 2012-10-04 07:51:41 UTC
I've just tested the OpenSude Live KDE CD (32bits), (they have KDE 4.8)
and the issue is still there.
(trying to send to "mycontact@linux.site")

@Anders: you said this worked for you. Could you try one of these Live CD ?
Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Comment 9 S. Burmeister 2012-10-04 08:12:51 UTC
mycontact@linux.site is an email address not a list, is it?
Comment 10 San 2012-10-04 09:20:47 UTC
no, this is precisely the bug: "my contact" is the name of a contact group (= a list)
but when you ask kmail to send a mail to this list, it will insert "mycontact@linux.site"
(or 'mycontact@kubuntu)
instead of sendind to the members of the list
Comment 11 San 2012-10-06 07:31:53 UTC
I made another try, and thanks to Anders suggestion, I waited a little bit before trying to send the email (in fact after creating the group, I closed kontact, waited 5 min, and re-opened it). And then it worked !
Comment 12 S. Burmeister 2012-10-06 08:36:14 UTC
The follow-up bug is bug 307948 since IMO the user should not have to wait before distribution lists work.

Isn't this back now that Nepomuk has been replaced by Baloo?
