Description Dotan Cohen 2011-03-01 12:41:03 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.6.0)
OS: Linux

In KDE 4.0 - 4.4 one could show the keyboard Label over the keyboard Flag. This is great for users who have multiple keyboard layouts in each language. For instance, I have a Hebrew layout and two English layouts: US and Dvorak. In KDE 4.4 I both US and Dvorak used the US flag, but they had the letters US or D superimposed.

However, now the System Settings dialogue uses a radiobox to select _either_ Flag or Label. Please change this radiobox back into checkboxes so that we can configure both.

Thanks!

Reproducible: Always

FWIW, this question/request was first asked on the kde-general list. I don't do but one layout here but checking the 4.6 settings I spotted the radio-buttons and said that suggested the change to single-choice-only must have been deliberate. I further suggested a bug explaining what he did there, that the flag and label conveyed to him different information and thus he had a use for both (which he did above). Here's the thread, of course now with a post linking back here so this comment now completes the two-way-reference.

Thanks you and others for kde. =:^)

This is a duplicate of 249121. In general the solution is to "show text" and changing layout label if you use same layout multiple times.

Thanks, Andriy. I miss the old bugzilla with it's real search. This is not the first dupe I've filed since the change.

By the way, your suggestion is not a "solution" but rather saying: Just get used to it.

Well, it's not about changing radiobutton to checkbox, it's about painting the text over the flag right. And I'll take a patch which does it *right* any time.

Right, that's important! I did not realise that the previous implementation had any trouble.

What was wrong with the previous implementation? Was it only for corner-cases?

I know that bugzilla is not a forum, should I ask you that question in private mail? I am now looking for GSoC projects to work on and I suppose that this could be something.
