Description H.H. 2011-02-27 17:17:56 UTC
Version: 0.8.0 (using KDE 4.6.0)
OS: Linux

I hope you agree with me, that thumbnail browsing mode should be fast, and most often is used for searching large directories of pictures.

Although the thumbnail building in gwenview is fast, there are two things which make it annoying slow:

a) everytime I open a new folder with photos (say 1000 photos), and scroll, gwenview starts to build thumbnails only for the current view-area (scroll position), although it would have enough time for building the previews when I look through a page. so, when I start to scroll further, I again(!) have to wait 2-3 seconds, after the next page is rendered and so on. When I remember right, gwenview/kde3 did a better job there.

When done right, looking through a folder for me could take 1/3 of the time, as it takes now.

b) folder-previews: if I have subfolders in such a folder, gwenview first generates thumbnails for the subfolders. such thumbnails are nice, but much less important than the main-thumbnails. So they should be build at the end. For example in a folder with 4 subfolders, I have to wait 3-4 extra seconds before gwenview starts to build previews for the photos.

Reproducible: Always

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.34-12-desktop

This is related to bug 114240

This is indeed the same bug.

sorry, but this has nothing to do with bug 114240

this bug is about (a) scrolling (b) folder-previews (the 4 little previews on folders). this bug is about the order, in which thumbnails are built.

the other bug is much more general, and fixing the other bug would not fix this bug.

Gwenview now generate thumbnails for all thumbnails in the folder, so I am changing the bug topic to reflect the part which is not done yet: generating thumbnails for subfolders last.
