Description Andreas Hochsteger 2001-05-29 05:45:15 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: keditbookmarks
Version: 1.0 (using KDE 2.1.2 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)
OS: Linux 2.4.0 i686
OS/Compiler notes:

I want to synchronize my bookmarks at home and at work. The simple solution would be to send the bookmarks.xml to home or to work every time I change something.
But the problem is that you may have two different bookmark files in the beginning and you have to merge them somehow.
You can do this by open (needs a File->Open menu) two different bookmark editors each with a different bookmark file and merge the bookmarks with drag and drop.
Another solution would be to merge them automatically (File->Merge).

The best solution would be to support both.

closing this as i still know no way of doing a sane merge of the files.
importing as a directory now works in any case.
Comment 2 rpramod 2003-05-04 08:07:24 UTC
I don't want to import it as a new folder, but just merge the entries which are different.
Comment 3 David Faure 2003-05-04 10:21:10 UTC
I agree with the bug reporters, this feature would be nice to have (I am in desperate
need to merge by bookmarks from two computers, and importing as subfolder means
much manual work).
Whether you plan to implement it or not, someone else might, so why not leave the
wish open?

i'll do this for 3.3 then :)

In case someone need this, one can use an external tool to bypass the problem like the old but still excellent Bookmarkbridge http://bookmarkbridge.sourceforge.net/documentation.html
A quite complete list of similar tools is available on http://bookmark-merger.sourceforge.net/Links.html
