This also happens with non-HTML mails when copying text from anywhere in the mail body; not just the header.
Comment 5 GK 2010-12-24 00:59:20 UTC
Confirmed always at Kubuntu 10.10 too. Kmail 1.13.5.
Comment 6 Leon Maurer 2010-12-24 07:23:47 UTC
I can also confirm on Kubuntu 10.10 with <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<body><h2 style="margin-top: 0px;">KMail 1.13.5</h2></body>

So apparently the bug also applies to the "KMail introduction" in the Help menu... (That was an attempt to copy "KMail 1.13.5").

This bug is really awful -- any news on fixing it?
Comment 7 Lipido 2011-01-01 18:05:39 UTC
I have the same issue too in Kmail 1.13.5. I think this was since my last upgrade of KDE to the 4.5.3 version.
Comment 8 BRULE Herman 2011-01-01 20:56:33 UTC
I have this bug since kde 4.3 or less
Comment 9 Jan-Olof Eriksson 2011-01-12 09:13:56 UTC
Same issue with openSUSE 11.3 + KDE 4.5.5

Confirmed here as well. I've also noticed that when you choose to edit an email, you can then copy the text from it, which is formatted and normally (in view/read-only mode) would be copied with HTML tags.
Comment 12 Ralf Jung 2011-01-15 16:00:38 UTC
Confirmed for KMail 1.13.5 on KDE 4.5.5 (Kubuntu PPA packages). This essentially renders the clipboard unusable for e-mails, a quite serious flaw.
Comment 13 Klaus Layer 2011-01-16 00:18:29 UTC
Confirmed for KDE 4.4.5 with kmail 1.13.5. Since kubuntu 10.04 released fixes with upgrade to KDE 4.4.5, all Kubuntu user are affected.

For Fedora 13 the same was reported recently:

@Christophe: So the fix has already been committed? When will it be released?
Comment 20 Marcelo Sales 2011-03-02 19:28:52 UTC
The header of this bug report says it has been fixed in 4.4.10, but I'm running 4.5.3 and this bug is still here.

It's in 4.6.0 as well.
Comment 22 GK 2011-03-03 22:32:52 UTC
So who can tell us when this will be finally solved??? It is really uncomfortable...
Comment 23 Leon Maurer 2011-03-03 22:46:49 UTC
Well, it looks like a fix was committed (see comments 15 and 16). KDE 4.6.1 was supposed to be out two days ago but isn't out yet; it sounds like it'll be out tomorrow. Hopefully it has the fix. Does anyone know for sure?
Comment 24 Arkadiusz Miskiewicz 2011-03-03 22:53:43 UTC
4.6.1 fixes the problem for me.
Comment 25 George L. Emigh 2011-03-03 23:01:10 UTC
I'm using (Gentoo) KDE 4.6.0, Kmail and friends here are at version 4.4.10, the fix was in 4.4.10, I patched 4.4.9 on my system using the above patch, and I'm been very thankful for it.

ymmv
Comment 26 Waldemar Szostak 2011-03-04 00:37:23 UTC
It works for me in Gentoo: KMail 1.13.6, KDE 4.6.00. I'm not sure which options (where are they??) that may be relevant here, but for one I have Folder > 'Prefer HTML to Plain text' unticked.

I had this problem before (the HTML tags were included in the copied text) but now it's gone. However, I can't guarantee I haven't changed the settings ever since.
Comment 27 Leon Maurer 2011-03-05 00:26:21 UTC
I'm still seeing the bug in Kubuntu's 4.6.1 release. Does anyone else still have issues in 4.6.1? If not, I guess I should take it up with them.

I'm guessing it wont get fixed until KDEPIM 4.6 is released and the devs are doing their best to make the transition as seamless as can be (thinking back on all the Akonadi trouble we've had earlier).

In the mean time use the selection clipboard (mark text, paste with MMB).

It's a PITA but I've rather have a _stable_ Akonadi based KDEPIM than having to deal with unresolved Akonadi issues.

I hope my pidgin like English makes any sense :-)
Comment 29 m.wege 2011-03-05 01:55:18 UTC
I am having the issues with KDE 4.6.1 too.
Comment 30 Leon Maurer 2011-03-05 02:06:19 UTC
Looks like Kubuntu still has Kontact 4.4.9, not 4.4.10. That could be the problem. m.wege@web.de, what version of Kontact do you have?
Comment 31 m.wege 2011-03-05 08:00:35 UTC
indeed, it is 4.4.9

Sorry for the confusion: it's fixed in kdepim 4.4.10, not in KDE 4.4.

The easy way to check is to look at your KMail version (help / About). it must be 1.13.6.

It is still 1.13.5 in Kubuntu 10.10.

Then go to Launchpad and complain to Canonical that they don't ship that update.
