Description Paul Millar 2010-12-03 11:45:48 UTC
Version: 4.4.5 (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS: Linux

kontact is a shell surrounding several KDE components, such as KMail and akregator.

When the akregator icon in kontact (left-hand edge; entitled "Feeds") is selected, then kontact will start akregator and (if configured) initiate an initially fetch of the feeds. An icon appears in the system tray and, if the "Notify when new articles arrive" option is selected in some feeds, then one or more messages may appear describing new items.

I have kontact configured to show KMail on startup; however, I wish to be alerted if I've selected different feeds with the "Notify when[..]" option.

Could kontact be adjusted to start akregator (in the background) on startup?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start kontact.
2. Switch kontact to "Feeds" view.
3. Switch back to kmail view.

Actual Results:
After step 1., there is no akregator icon in system tray.

Step 2. triggers kontact to initialise akregator.

Step 3. allows reading of email, etc.

After update of feeds, (and if configured) there is possibly messages from some feeds.

Expected Results:
Kontact starts and akregator also starts at the same time, without switching to akregator view.

I can't decide the severity: it's either Normal (i.e., a simple bug in kontact that should be fixed) or an enhancement, depending on one's point-of-view.
