Same experience, I believe it happens when kpackage starts automaticly to look for updates, for I haven't had update-notices in the tray for more then a week although it's set foor weekly check.
Please disable extra repos until packagekit-backend-aptcc isn't updated But keep maverick and maverick-update *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 253930 ***
