Description Bernhard E. Reiter 2010-11-02 17:36:02 UTC
N900 experimental from tag 20101101 only has
Package: akonadi-server Version: 1.4.52.svn1183813-1maemo1.1183786
and it cannot send emails.

According to Volker this is a known defect, fixed svn1186987
but somehow there is no new package to get the fix to the N900.
Comment 1 Bernhard E. Reiter 2010-11-02 17:39:55 UTC
Volker says the tag from the 20101029 has the fix, so does the 20101022,
so something is broken later in the chain towards the package.

This is fixed by installing a new version of the akonadi-server packages.
The versions are available from experimental packages now, but they
cannot be simply upgraded. There is still the packaging issue
that they are considered older because of a version number change.

I could send emails again by installing
  apt-get install \
    akonadi-server=1.4.52.20101022.svn1188491-1maemo1 \
    libakonadiprivate1=1.4.52.20101022.svn1188491-1maemo1 \
    akonadi-backend-sqlite=1.4.52.20101022.svn1188491-1maemo1

optinal the same version for "akonadi-rds", if you happen to have it installed.

Sabine is testing with akonadi-server 1.4.53.201011051121.git55c13b4-1maemo1.1193228 (see bug 255407) and sending still fails.

I resolved the issue of the "svn"-based version numbers by removing all akonadi packages and installing from snapshots, a week ago or so.

I think you simply reverted to an old akonadi-server+libakonadiprivate, this is why you can send emails again, but the bug is definitely there in more recent versions of akonadi/kdepimlibs.

Reopening this bug, since 255407 was marked as a duplicate of this one by Volker.
Comment 5 Bernhard E. Reiter 2010-11-05 16:03:49 UTC
I have just upgraded to akonadi-server
1.4.53.201011051121.git55c13b4-1maemo1.1193228
and I can still send emails.

Also version 1.4.52.20101022.svn1188491-1maemo1
is really newer than 1.4.52.svn1183813-1maemo1.1183786_armel.deb
you can see this from the svn version number. The explicit command
was only necessary because apt believes it is older because of a packaging
version number issue (that is known and now solved as you can see above.)

Volker told me that this kind of defect was fixed with svn1186987.

Two possibilites:
Sabine either has different defect. So you could possible de-dublicate
the other issue.

Or she did not not delete the old messages in the outbox.
It seems that old messages do no revocer from the problem, so even an explicit
sending will not sent them out

(Of course other configuration issues could be there as well.)
Comment 6 Sabine Faure 2010-11-05 17:56:28 UTC
Thx for the suggestion Bernhard it helped a lot (I did have a lot of emails with no remote Id stuck in my outbox).

I can not send and receive emails properly again so I am closing that bug.

N900, 4:4.6~20101105.1193208-1maemo1.1193066
