Description kuba 2010-09-28 00:54:16 UTC
Application: amarok (2.3.2)
KDE Platform Version: 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1)
Qt Version: 4.7.0
Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-25-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

-- Information about the crash:
Amarok simply crashes when I'm trying to save any playlist by clicking a "save current playlist" button. The problem persists with no apparent dependency on the specific tracks I've added. I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 from kubuntu PPA on amd64.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

Thanks for the info - sorry, I don't check this account as often as I should.

One thing weird I found that really messes it up is that I am running everything
off a truecrypt partition, and if Amarok comes up before the partition is
mounted, it doesn't seem to react well.

Thanks for the info. This is what I am seeing.

I don't know if it helps, but I am running my playlist off a truecrypt
partition, and Amarok doesn't seem to like it when it starts automatically and
the partition isn't mounted yet.

Looks like someone fixed this issue already in the latest git.
I see quite many commits by Rick W. Chen.

Could someone please confirm this ?

Checkout Myriam's blog @

for an easy way of installing amarok from git in your home directory - without touching the original installation.

Dennis, your backtrace is for a different crash, bug 256869. It only happens sporadically, so it is hard to reproduce, but definitely not fixed.

Myriam,

My backtrace doesn't look like the one in #256869

In fact my bt has essentially the same elements as in the original
reporter's case (bug #252597).
-----------[snip]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

../../src/playlistmanager/PlaylistManager.cpp:306
-----------[snip]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For me, the crash used to happen _every time_ I click the save playlist
button (Note that I used the code from git(on 2010-11-11) - probabiliy
that is why my stack trace looks little different from the others ).

But now, using the latest code from git, I don't get any crash while
doing the same steps. Everything seems to work fine now.
Comment 35 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-11-17 12:17:07 UTC
Dennis, the backtrace in comment #19 shows this as the crash origin:

#18 0xb6eb9343 in PlaylistBrowserNS::PlaylistBrowserView::viewportEvent
(this=0x94aeed8, event=0xbfdff888) at
/home/dennis/devel/kde/src/amarok/src/browsers/playlistbrowser/PlaylistBrowserView.cpp:320

So does the backtrace in comment #20:

#18 0xb6eb9343 in PlaylistBrowserNS::PlaylistBrowserView::viewportEvent (this=0x94aeed8, event=0xbfdff888) at /home/dennis/devel/kde/src/amarok/src/browsers/playlistbrowser/PlaylistBrowserView.cpp:320

and again in comment #21:

#18 0xb6eb9343 in PlaylistBrowserNS::PlaylistBrowserView::viewportEvent
(this=0x94aeed8, event=0xbfdff888) at
/home/dennis/devel/kde/src/amarok/src/browsers/playlistbrowser/PlaylistBrowserView.cpp:320

which is definitely a different bug.

It is not enough to have similar elements in a backtrace, it depends on the first occurence.

Ok, but in my case, the crash was not sporadic, it was perfectly
repeatable.

BTW, did you check if the code from current git solves #252597 ?
Atleast I don't get any crash when I follow the steps mentioned by the
original reporter of #252597 (which is supposed to be a repeatable
one).

Luken13: you are still using Amarok 2.3.2, so no need to add another backtrace for that, the bug is already confirmed.
If you want to try 2.4-git, have a look here: http://blogs.fsfe.org/myriam/2009/09/compiling-amarok-from-git-locally-full-summary/

This is already solved in Amarok 2.4-git and will be shipped with Amarok 2.4 to be released in January. We don't need any more commentds and backtraces from 2.3.2

If you can't wait, you can install Amarok 2.4 from git locally, see also comment #45.

This looks very much like the QTreeView crash I just fixed in Qt.

Anyone who can trigger this bug reliably, please try applying the Qt patch that I posted to QTBUG-16292.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

amarok (2.3.2) on KDE Platform 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1) using Qt 4.7.0

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Amarok crashes everytime I click on the save playlist button. Even if the playlist is empty and I click on the button, it still crashes.
- Custom settings of the application:
I'm trying amarok 2.x for the first time. I've not changed the application much more from the default settings.
