Description manu.wagner 2010-09-03 13:53:04 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #190923 +++

Version: 2.0.90 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

It sounds absurd, but "works" reliably with me: When I click (right or left button) in the "current track" plasmoid in Amarok 2.1b, afterwards I can't click any menue from the menue bar (tools, settings etc.) - it just doesn't drop down.
I have to click somewhere in Amarok (other plasmoid, playlist, collection...) in order to be able to habe access to a menue again).
This is independant from the order of the plasmoids, so it's really just the "Current track" (which on right click does'nt show a context menue, by the way - maybe that's related).

This bug is coming back again with amarok 2.3.2 GIT + QT 4.7

No need to subscribe me, I get all Amarok bugs in my inbox anyway :)
Comment 2 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-09-03 18:26:08 UTC
Using Amarok 2.3.1-git with KDE 4.5. on Kubuntu 10.04, Qt 4.7:

I can't reproduce this at all, sorry. Maybe somebody else can?
Comment 3 Mark Kretschmann 2010-09-03 18:29:14 UTC
I can think of no technical explanation for this in any way. How could the applet be causing this?

Sadly I cannot reproduce it either...
Comment 4 manu.wagner 2010-09-03 18:55:45 UTC
It started when I pulled from GIT last week.
I read in the mailing list that someone had the same issue

Clicking on the applet seems to have no effect. Also, right-clicking does give me a context menu in today's GIT. And menus always work as expected for awhile. But later in a session, I have to choose a different applet to be able to see and use menus -- both context and top-level.

@Manu: You could do us a great favor by tracking down which commit did this. Then we could probably solve issue.
Comment 9 Mark Kretschmann 2010-09-04 19:00:23 UTC
@Manu and @Valorie:

I think I have found a candidate which might have caused this. Could you please try this, and then rebuild:

"git revert 8bf455b5c19adba76fd28bbfe4274204b5cb4119"
Comment 10 Paulo Dias 2010-09-04 22:59:01 UTC
i reverted and recompiled, still there, sorry :P
Comment 11 Paulo Dias 2010-09-08 18:50:59 UTC
with current git (3b618b731ba93c4f927085d28b467901dbb652d8), the menus work fine with current track in single view mode (one screen), but not in multi-head (twinview in my case (nvidia)) :P anyone has the same behaviour?
Comment 12 jajaX 2010-09-23 18:49:56 UTC
Hi !

same problem with kubuntu 10.04.1 (64 bits), KDE SC 4.5.1 and Amarok 2.3.2.

no problem with kubuntu 10.4.1 (32 bits).
Comment 13 Paulo Dias 2010-09-23 19:25:15 UTC
still there with today git, 2.4 brand new branch.

i did some more digging, if i remove my amarok configs, the bug doesnt show up BUT as soon as the current track starts showing stuff it starts. if i try to click on the menus, the "feed the developers icons" (top right corner) start to blink, although im not nowhere near then, maybe its related? the only way to use menus is to "hide" the current track plasmoid by moving it down, outside of the displayed layout, or not use it at all.

anyone else seeing this behaviour?

Hi !

no problem since new amarok packaging under kubuntu ppa backports. it's for 64 bits version.

solved for me :)

This is just a coincidence, it is definitely not a packaging problem as you suggest, as it happens on other distributions, and mind you, the report is about the git version :)
Comment 16 jajaX 2010-09-29 15:41:12 UTC
yes, it's a coincidence sorry. I don't see this issue since the new packaging. but, this morning, after leave open Amarok since last evening, this issue coming back.

It seems that most of the problems were caused by Plasma::TabBar.
Should be fixed with c827effe26fa1c4ce54c8c1bf6a962b80cc507e8

Fixed, see comment #19
Comment 21 Tushar Gokhale 2010-10-31 03:29:59 UTC
The bug is not yet fixed. The bug I wanted to report was menu not visible after using cover art.

I found confirm way of reproducing in amarok 2.3.2 under Linux x86_64 release 2.6.35-22-generic

Here are steps:
1. Move the "Context" tab over the "Media Source"
2. Click on context tab so that it will be in front
3. Start the cover art and close it.
4. Now click on any menu item from top - it will not be visible
5. Now click on Media Sources tab
6. Now click on any menu item from top - it will be visible
Everytime you go back to Context tab menu hides. Also noticed that menu tries to open but just flickers and disappears.
Comment 22 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-10-31 15:01:51 UTC
Well, yes, of course it is not fixed in 2.3.2, it is fixed in the upcoming version 2.4, unless your distribution backports a fix.
