Description janox 2010-08-28 09:26:30 UTC
Version: 1.4.0 (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS: Linux

It should be useful the possibility to modify the IPTC datas of more than one file together (to set, in a group of photos, the same Country name, City, Location, in the same time)

Reproducible: Didn't try

Do you tried metadata template to apply on image ? Set your template in Template setup page and apply it using icon view by the Captions & Tags view from right sidebar, or using Batch Queue Manager

Hello Gilles,

thank you very much for your fast reply.
Yes, I tried to do so, but the problem is that, in this way, I can't
overwrite the data in file. Let me do an example:

I'm interested to place the location notes in IPTC, soI import a group
of images. IPTC fields are empty.
Now I select one image, and I select/ Image-> Metadata->Edit IPTC/.
Filling the fields, there is no problem (I verify it checking the
metadata with different softwares, as XnView, and it's all OK)

This method doesn't permit to assign the same values to more than one
photo in the same time.

So I try to create a template, and I assign it to the image group. After
this, I write the metadata to these images.
It appears to be OK:

but the datas are not written in metafile:

Also XnView confirmed me the metadata are not written in files.

I suppose my precedure can be wrong, but I don't understand what is my
fault.

--------------

About Sigma files, I know the particular kind of sensor (and the poor
diffusion of it) makes difficult to have an efficent color managing, as
I already noted using the different releases of software, or other
products. So, even if I love this camera, I'm afraid that my next reflex
will have a Bayer sensor!

Thank you for you friendness and kindness, have a nice Sunday!

Mario

go to setup metadata config panel from digiKam and turn on the right option to write metadata to image (disabled by default).

Hello Gilles,

and sorry to disturb you again. In config panel the metadata options
were already flagged, I try to re-install Digikam but I can't solve it.
As I said, it's not (for me) a so serious problem, because I can modify
each file one by one.

My Best regards

Mario

any news on this ?

I think this could be splitted in two things
- maybe a bug when writing iptc
- feature request to more easily set iptc (or other action) on multiple pictures, most notably a selection.
- it seems when using information template, that you can't edit/create them manually (but maybe I didn't understand their behavior well)

This last point seems the most important I think. For now (but I'm new to digikam), it seems the only way is using metadata panel on the right of the screen.
Classical action way for a user from other similar tools would be
* context menu on a selection of pictures (like 'Assign Tag)
* keyboard shortcut (like assign rating; a shortcut for assign tag would be great too)

Thanks
