Version: 1.13.5 (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux Sometimes, I don't yet know when and why, kmail hangs when pressing the send button in the composer after composing, replying and/or forwarding a mail. The CPU load of kontact/kmail in this case is down to 0. Now the facts and probabilities: I think, but that is not 100% sure, that it only happens when forwarding or replying mails. It could be caused by logging in to the same account from somewhere else while the first login is still active, e.g. via NX. But, in this case, the second login does not open or even use kontact or kmail, except maybe the reminder daemon. The first login did end kontact properly before the second login/session was started. So evt. this bug here is related to #228612, but the results are different. But in 100% of the cases an "akonadictl stop" before starting kontact again fixes the problem. Next time I start kontact/kmail I will do that with the ulimit core size set to unlimited, so I can at least try to find out where it hangs. I set the severity to "crash", because I have to kill the application. Reproducible: Always
I'm having the same issue with KMail 1.13.5 on Kubuntu Maverick 10.10 RC, however "akonadictl stop" does not fix the problem for me. The problem currently is always reproducible for me, and I cannot send any mail using KMail.
Still valid for KMail 1.13.5 and KDE 4.5.2. When KMail hangs after pressing send, I can send the message when I run akonadictl stop/start. Then suddently the mail's going out or I can can press send again.
This appears to be a duplicate of Bug 247624.
(In reply to comment #3) > This appears to be a duplicate of Bug 247624. On my box it freezes forever, or at least way longer than a few minutes. The fix is the same as mentioned in comment #4 of bug #247624. My kmail always and only hangs when I use kmail from another login to the complete desktop as described in this bug. The reporters of #247624 do not mention something like that at all.
seems to be solved in kmail 1.13.5 (gentoo source kmail-4.4.8)
I cannot confirm this. Just this morning I had a hanging send using kmail 1.13.5 from the openSUSE 11.3 KDE 4.5 Repos (KDE:/Release:/45/openSUSE_11.3), Package kmail-4.4.9-1.2.x86_64. It seems that is not necessary to start kmail/kontact when logging in from a remote host. It seems to be sufficient just to start the KDE4 session, which I my case starts kalarm as the only application of the PIM suite. It is not repeatable 100%, and I'm sorry that I do not yet know how to reproduce that.
this looks rather similar to bug #204515. dupe?
(In reply to comment #7) > this looks rather similar to bug #204515. dupe? I checked that one. In my case I also get a non responsive kmail, but I never get any mail in the send folder. The only solution that I could find to get the mail out was restarting akonadi. But I will double check the proposed solution mentioned in bug #204515 as soon as I can reproduce the problem. If it's a dupe, I will mark mine accordingly.
Same seen here with kontact-4.4.10 on kde-4.6.0, Gentoo Linux.
Could this be a duplicate of bug#257362?
(In reply to comment #10) > Could this be a duplicate of bug#257362? maybe the other way around. this bug is older.
Thank you for your report. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained and the code has changed sufficiently in Kmail2 so the backtraces are not really useful anymore. Should you experience the same crash in Kmail 4.8.5 or later, please open a new report for Kmail2. Thank you for your understanding
