- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Launched kontact and went straight to Settings|Configure Contact menu and kontact crashed as soon as the menu item was clicked.

- Custom settings of the application:
The only active application in kontact at the time was knode. 
I had disabled all other settings while trying to narrow down the cause of Xorg occasionally taking over the CPU and now that I've got some feedback regarding the possible causes and fix for this I wanted to set kontact back as it was.

The crash can be reproduced every time.
