I will re-try Klipper after a "COLD RESET" of the KDE subdirs ( rm -rf ~/.kde )
and then see if things are better...
Comment 2 Cesar Garcia 2010-08-12 05:25:16 UTC
Same here, KDE SC 4.5.0 (Gentoo ~amd64), cant select the items in the klipper menu, already tried with a clean config.
Comment 3 H.H. 2010-08-12 12:01:53 UTC
I can confirm this
Comment 4 tuupic 2010-08-14 09:53:49 UTC
Confirm.
Also I can`t configure hotkey to show klipper menu. I don`t see this settings.
Comment 5 Christian (Fuchs) 2010-08-14 16:59:20 UTC
Confirmed on both Gentoo and Kubuntu with KDE 4.5.

A workaround is to use right mouse to open the menu, which seems to work for me.

Kind regards,

Christian

#4: You can set the short cut sequence via. the global shortcuts part of System Settings.

The default combination doesn't work for me either using the Kubuntu release of 4.5 though...
Comment 7 Duarte Rocha 2010-08-15 20:29:25 UTC
The workaround doesn't work for me because with the kubuntu release of KDE 4.5, in the
klipper menu -> configure Klipper -> Shortcuts
There is no option for "Show Klipper Menu" as there is in the in "global shortcuts part of System Settings"

On kubuntu, don't know if it works , or is done the same way on other distributions:

If you select "System tray Configuration" -> "Entries"

Change the klipper value to "none" (or some other value then Ctrl+Alt+V) then save, and then go back there and do the same, but put the default "Ctrl+Alt+V", it will show a conflict warning, and if you accept it, the shortcut will work again.

Though the shortcut works, when you select a entry from klipper, the "klipper windows" will not go away....

The only way klipper works as it should, is if you
"> A workaround is to use right mouse to open the menu, which seems to work for me. "

#8 confirmed working like you say on Kubuntu 10.04. Though as stated Klipper is not useful at the moment if you want to avoid using the mouse. ctrl-alt-down/up doesn't select text either, so state of klipper in 4.5.0 is quite, hmmm, horrible.
Comment 10 Tom Chiverton 2010-08-18 20:20:19 UTC
That creates a new shortcut to popup the main GUI for a system tray applet, which in this case is being configured to conflict with the global short cut (that's broken). So with this workaround, the Klipper menu doesn't appear at the mouse position, for instance.

As you say, not a work around :-/

#10 well I think this is the new way and how it's supposed to work now. Reading the svn comment from this commit:

- Port Klipper to KStatusNotifierItem.
- Remove the shortcut for showing the menu, and the option for showing
the menu at the cursor position when the shortcut is triggered.
(The shortcut is now configured in the systray settings.)

*whuh* ? The 'open at mouse cursor position' option is going away ? So it'll always open in the (miles away) bottom of screen (out of eye line) ?
Geezz, as if having it be plain broke wasn't bad enough, it's going to be less usable too !

The commit doesn't appear to link to a bug or issue explaining why this was done, and I'm not up enough on the ins and outs of the road map to know if my fears are right or not...
Comment 13 Duarte Rocha 2010-09-06 09:44:13 UTC
After upgrading to "KDE SC 4.5.1" the problem was fixed...for me anyway.

Don't know about the "default shortcut", since I already had found a workaround for that. But now when selecting an entry from klipper, the window disappears =)
Comment 14 Duarte Rocha 2010-09-09 11:29:59 UTC
There is now no search option....

Before when one activated the klipper menu, and typed something it searched the list and narrow the options shown to the ones that matched the typed text....

Now it doesn't work :'(

Can anyone else confirm this behavior?

Also, defining the shortcut on the Global shortcuts, also doesn't work.

I confirm this in 4.5.1 (Gentoo).

I'm running KDE 4.5.2 on F14, and the bug is still present. Sometimes I'm able to change the selected clipboard item, sometimes the menu is frozen and the selection does not change. Also, sometimes it looks like the selection did not change, but the clipboard contents are updated anyway.

I have tried resetting KDE settings and modifying klipper settings as well, neither have resolved this issue.

Well, this report is mixed with more than one problems :)

As for the original problem mentioned by the reporter, I failed to reproduce when using 4.7.x and later versions.

As for the global shortcut for the popup menu, I think it is tracked in bug 244620. It is basically related with the commit mentioned in comment #10 in this report.

As for the searching problem, it works for me although there is an annoying problem. See bug 265614.

So I will close this report. If anyone still has the original problem when using recent versions, feel free to reopen this report or leave comment.
