Description Nikita Krupenko 2010-07-11 16:43:01 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.3)
OS: Linux

Please add the following features:
1. Not ask the password for applications and open wallet automatically.
2. Ask the password while opening it in KWallet.

This will solve next issues:
1. Necessity of entering password every time I start application and wallet isn't opened.
2. After entering password wallet stays opened and everybody can see my passwords in KWallet.

Reproducible: Didn't try

I have the same annoying problem.
It's realy strange using a wallet you have to enter a password a lot of times.
Look at keychain in Mac OS X. If you want find passwords or certificates, you need to enter password and open a keychain. But applications ask for access to keychain only once. And it's realy very usefull.
P.S. I think the issue #295588 (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=295588) duplicates this feature request.

Please uncheck the "close wallet when last application closes it" in system settings / account details / kde wallet options.

Also, you may want to switch to the GPG backend wich only requires passphrase for key unlocking once during a user session.

Valentin, thanks for your answer. But it doesn't relate with my initial message.
Yep, I can keep kwallet in open mode. (not only unchek "close when last application closes it" but also "close, if you don't use it during ... min"). But it is insecure.
If I keep open wallet, I (or somebody else) can open KWallet app and see passwords in open access. It is almost the same thing as don't use a password at all.

An idea of this feature request is separate user(admin) acess to wallet and application. Admin can allow an application to use wallet (the same as now), he confirms his action by password. If user opens kwallet he must enter a password again to manage data/applications.
But all allowed applications use wallet without any additional permission.

as I said before, Mac OS X keychain has simular behaviour.

Actually, my problem is that I don't think I have a password for kdewallet and I have no idea how to create one. I can't even find kdewallet on my computer, so I have no clue where that is coming from.

I have to add that I'm quite a new user of KDE software and I'm also new to Linux in general.
