Description zohn.joidberg 2010-04-24 16:29:10 UTC
Application: plasma-desktop (0.3)
KDE Platform Version: 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2)
Qt Version: 4.6.2
Operating System: Linux 2.6.31-20-generic x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 9.10

-- Information about the crash:
I wanted to increase the space of the task manager in the panel, so I decided to create a second panel dedicated to the task manager at the bottom and all the rest in a panel on top.
(moved original panel to top, new panel to bottom with new task manager)

After doing this, I already noticed some problems after my first reboot: Part of the top panel was black. The date/time applet was unreadable (black on black).

So I decided to undo the changes.
Removed new bottom panel and moved original panel back to bottom.

I created a new panel on top to see if it would also become partially black. It didn't.
Then to gain back screen space, I tried to remove it.
That's when the crash occured.

Note:
Graphic card: Zotac GeForce GTX 260
Desktop effects were disabled.

When using desktop effects, my screen sometimes gets garbled or freezes completely after a while.
The logs contain messages similar to the following in such cases:
/var/log/kern.log.1:Apr 16 13:45:48 my-desktop kernel: [14491.078902] NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 13, 0001 00000000 00008397 0000194c 00000000 00000100

I also noticed parts of the bottom panel being black too sometimes. This changes as soon as I pass the mouse over it.
This wasn't the case this time with the black top panel.

I suppose the black parts are most likely an NVidia driver issue and unrelated to the crash, but I'm mentioning all this anyway, just in case.

black side panel

The black top panel is reproducible, even if everything is removed from the panel.
Also happens on the side as shown in the following screenshot.
There clearly seems to be some more general display issue. :/
