Version: (using KDE 4.4.0) Installed from: Unspecified Linux the tooltips of the Add Widgets dialogue cover other widgets, making the whole dialogue very difficult to use.
Instead of "fixing" the tooltips, maybe there should just be an option to disable them: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=211593

> Instead of "fixing" the tooltips indeed, why fix bugs if we can just make the code more complex so people can click around them! screw the people who actually want those features or who don't find the options! *sigh*
I'm sorry that you took it that way, Aaron. You know that my intention in filing bugs is to help make KDE better, my intention is certainly not to make you frustrated. I really did not think that you would take it that way.
Perhaps this has been partially fixed in KDE-4.4. This works at the acceptable level with a horizontal Add Widgets bar -- I would suggest that the vertical displacement is not really enough; the tool tip should be displaced not only to not cover the icon and text label but to not cover the AW bar. However, a vertical AW bar have very poor usability. I would guess that this is the same problem that has been seen before where different actions are needed for vertical and horizontal Panels and this doesn't happen. Is it presumed that all Panels are horizontal? Whether the displacement is only sufficient to clear the icon and text label, or to clear the AW bar, the displacement always needs to be towards the center of the screen. This means in the Y direction for horizontal panels and in the X direction for vertical panels -- the sign depends on which convention is being used for the location of the origin. This is the bug and it needs to be fixed. Why it even needs to be filed as a bug is something which puzzles me. I see the question of turning off the tooltips as a separate one. It appears to me that it should be possible to turn off all tooltips. How finely divided this should be is another question, but it needs to be possible to turn them all off. Some experienced users find them not only unnecessary but an annoyance.
Somehow related report: bug 221885.
Thanks, Dario. I was tempted to mark this as a dupe, but it's not. The solution to this bug would be to move the tooltips in the Y direction, whereas the solution to bug 221885 would be to reduce the amount of whitespace (wasted space or empty space, even if it is not white) in the tooltips. Thanks.
Is this bug being worked on? I am one of those users that has a vertical panel and the tooltips on the AW bar cover all the icons following the one that I am viewing... very annoying as it's hard to jump ahead, I only am able to view one-by-one. (And the WA bar is 2x as wide as it needs to be... but that may be a different bug.)
