Description m.wege 2010-02-20 11:32:25 UTC
Version: unknown (using 4.4.00 (KDE 4.4.0), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.31-20-generic

please add a "[ ] don't ask again" for the "Nepomuk Indexing Agents Have Been Disabled" message. i have now disabled it intentionally because of the bugs which slow down kmail sending and filter handling. even after those bugs are fixed there might be reasons for users to do this and they don't want to be reminded at every system start.

This happens much more frequently.

Also I think that akonadi nepomuk agents should not be run at all if nepomuk is stopped, because in this case they just eat system resources and spam notifications.

Closing w/ wontfix, This warning is now displayed as a notification.

Actually, the behaviour should be the opposite: nepomuk should be started if the Akonadi feeders need it.

Fixed.

Can not understand why was needed the possibility to disable nepomuk then? Make it always enabled and see on people reaction.

But if it's an optional feature (and you should agree that it could be useful not for all users), it should stay disabled to the end, if user disabled it and akonadi should just disable the part of functional, that depend on it. Also good manner is to notify users once what thing wouldn't work without nepomuk and it could display warning in its settings window too.

Otherwise you should make nepomuk always enabled and allow to users only enable/disable indexing, if akonadi can not live without it. But actually akonadi can.

In any case, current behaviour (annoy user by spamming notifications) is totally wrong and it is not good for KDE in general, also as the boorish developers reaction.

enable/disable indexing

Well, That's already possible. The Akonadi feeders can work even if the files indexing is disabled.

(ie: kcmshell4 nepomuk / second tab / "Customize index folders" / uncheck all the boxes on the left, add '*' on the right, voila)

Yes, thank you, I know it, but I have talked about other things.
Comment 6 Tristan Miller 2011-08-27 09:34:08 UTC
I have raised the problem with the system notification as Bug 280876.

What purpose of displaying "Nepomuk Indexing Agents Have Been Disabled" notifications after every login?

Why not to add suggested "[ ] don't ask again" option?
