Description pier andre 2010-02-13 20:35:08 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    openSUSE RPMs

I I move folder view (desktop) in the dashboard and resize it at the next restart it is plced in another position and different size, I expect it has to remember size and position.
Comment 1 Dario Andres 2010-02-16 15:03:33 UTC
- Does this also happen with a FolderView which is not in the dashboard ?
Regards
Comment 2 pier andre 2010-02-16 15:27:59 UTC
I don't know, where can I place a folder view other than dashboard??
Comment 3 Dario Andres 2010-02-16 15:32:55 UTC
Well... you have the normal Desktop (minimize all the windows), and the Dashboard (showed when you press Ctrl+F12...
They may show the same widgets or a different set of them, depending on settings.
But some functionalities may differ a bit if you use the normal desktop or the dashboard to set a widget properties.

well placed folder view

I moved and resized the folder view
Comment 5 pier andre 2010-02-16 16:11:17 UTC
The dashboard (ctrlF12) and the normal desktop shows the same things, until now I used the normal desktop to set properties of folder view.

After restart desktop appear in this way
Comment 7 Dario Andres 2010-02-16 16:19:53 UTC
- Did you restart using the normal options ("Restart" from the menu) ?
- Could you try restarting plasma: (in Konsole run "kquitapp plasma-desktop && sleep 8 && plasma-desktop") ?
Regards

I had the same problem as you (see bug 226269), but somehow this problem
disappeared for me, and I really can't tell for which reason. The only thing I
did was to update the Factory packages of KDE SC 4.4 on a regular basis. If
thats the reason or not, I don't know -- but if there are any packages in
Factory you could update (I use: sudo zypper lu, to see if there are any
updateable packages) you could try that and see if this problem disappears.

I also added another folder view to an activity to see if the problems
eventually reappears for me on new folder views -- it will take a while for me
to be able to report anything about that, as I can't logout now.
Comment 9 pier andre 2010-02-16 16:43:57 UTC
-Yes I used the normal options.
-yes it happens restarting plasma too.(kquitapp plasma-desktop && sleep 8 &&) plasma-desktop
another problem happens, I don't know if it is related on this, if I add a file with "create new file" all the icons are reordered alfabetically, in the settings I put "not ordered"
ciao

I tested with further folder views... and could not see that behaviour anymore -- folder views do remember its sizes and positions correctly for me now.
Comment 11 pier andre 2010-02-17 10:40:26 UTC
I made a new folder view in another desktop/activity, the behaviour is the same for both, doesn't remember size.
Comment 12 pier andre 2010-03-31 16:37:46 UTC
It seems solved in kde 4.4.2.
I deleted /home/user/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc, rebooted,
and now size and position are remembered. :-)
thanks, Pier

OK closing then :) Thanks Pier

It's still happening for me on 4.9.x. Everytime I change position and size of my folder view widget, on the next restart it's placed on the top-left with default size. I tried removing ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc to no avail. How can I solve it without getting rid of my .kde folder?
Comment 15 Myriam Schweingruber 2012-10-11 11:13:34 UTC
Which exact 4.9 version? Did you try moving all plasma* configuration files?
Comment 16 Montblanc 2012-10-12 00:22:39 UTC
Hey, Myriam.

It's 4.9.2, atm. I removed every plasma* configuration files as you suggested and this issue disappeared.

The files I backed up, other than plasma-desktop-appletsrc were:

plasma-desktoprc
plasma-windowed-appletsrc
plasma_applet_fadingcalendarrc
plasma_applet_plasmoconrc
plasmarc

I browsed the ~/.kde/share/config directory just to see what happened and I noticed that just plasma-desktop-appletsrc and plasma-desktoprc were recreated. When I overwrote them with my backupped files (just those 2), this issue popped in again.

The funny thing is that i can manually recreate my old environment (same theme, plasmoids, background, etc.) WITHOUT restoring my old plasma-desktop-appletsrc to reintroduce that bug.

I think something is going on with my plasmoids, may you kindly have a quick look at my cfg?

my plasma-desktop-appletsrc on kde 4.9.2
Comment 18 Myriam Schweingruber 2012-10-12 08:56:06 UTC
The problem was in the old configuration:

[Containments][1][Applets][2]
geometry=20,20,600,400
immutability=1
plugin=folderview
zvalue=0

[Containments][1][Applets][2][Configuration]
Share=false
alignToGrid=false
blankLabel=true
clickForFolderPreviews=true
customIconSize=32
customLabel=
drawShadows=true
filter=0
filterFiles=*
flow=0
geometry=20,23,600,400
iconsLocked=false
immutability=2
mimeFilter=
numTextLines=2
plugin=folderview
showPreviews=true
sortColumn=6
url=desktop:/
zvalue=0

Anyway, since the old configuration was removed this is solved now. Thank you for your feedback.
