(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: konqueror Version: 2.1 Installed from RedHat 6.2 rpms. When Konqueror accesses certain non-english websites (websites that use accented characters in their content) it displays the content without the accents. The probable reason: certain webserver setups rely on client requesting particular language in http request. Netscape Navigator has Edit/Preferences/Navigator/Languages. If the list of languages contains [cs] then Netscape renders http://www.seznam.cz OK. If it does not contain [cs] it will render all characters without accents. Just like Konqueror. -- Milos Prudek

You ask for English you get English ;-) More seriously we should readd the configuration of the languages (was in kfm) so that this is better configurable again (and so that you can specify more than one language and not necessarily the same as the desktop). -- David FAURE david@mandrakesoft.com faure@kde.org http://perso.mandrakesoft.com/~david/ http://www.konqueror.org/ KDE Making The Future of Computing Available Today

Precisely. There are many users like me who want English user interface with local language display capability. My reasons include: - I often find local language translations confusing - I am accustomed to English language interface Please consider enabling users to decouple the language setting in Control Center and acceptable charset in Konqueror. These options should be coupled by default though because with wider adoption of KDE/*NIX users like me will become a minority. -- Milos Prudek

Replaced prudek@nembv.cz with ossi@kde.org due to bounces by reporter
It's almost unbelievable that this bug hasn't been addressed, and barely has a vote. We need to be able to choose a set of languages to accept, to order them according to preference, and have this reflected in the content negotiation headers of Konqueror's requests. Every other browser has been doing this for years...

This whishlist item gets my votes. I prefer English applications but like to see websites in German if available.
