Description Daniel Hahler 2010-01-25 19:59:25 UTC
Application: krunner (0.1)
KDE Platform Version: 4.3.95 (KDE 4.3.95 (KDE 4.4 RC2))
Qt Version: 4.6.0
Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-11-generic i686
Distribution: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)

-- Information about the crash:
I've opened krunner (Alt-F2), typed amarok and while there was still some completion in progress, I've pressed "Enter".

Maybe I've also done "ama<tab><enter>" or something similar.

KRunner crashed and Amarok was not started.

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.

 -- Backtrace:
Application: Run Command Interface (kdeinit4), signal: Segmentation fault

I think I have the same problem. krunner crashes from time to time when I try to launch apps.

I think it happens more when the system is under heavy load, maybe I type to fast too.

i'm also having these crashes from time to time, currently i'm using 4.4.0 on fedora 12 with qt 4.6.1
actually the trace is more similar to the one of bug 225964 but since this is marked as a duplicate of this one, i'm attaching the crash dump here. maybe this helps since every symbol could be retrieved here (in libdbus)

From bug 229785:
I had scrolled upward in the list to re-run a command, and krunner crashed when
I pressed Enter. I think I was slipping on the keys a little, so maybe I had
pressed the up arrow once too many, just before pressing Enter.
...
It happened again, this time just after I had resumed from sleep. I noticed
that prior to the crash, krunner did not do the usual matching of my input to
previous input, but I went ahead and pressed Enter anyway. And then it crashed.

From bug 229498:
I have krunner crashing from time to time on my machine (few times per day). It
seems it happens when I type fast and hit enter before it is able to updated UI
with possible completions. I was trying to start 'stardict' when this crash
happened if it matters.

KRunner usually seems to crash a couple of letters into 'konsole' (usually around 'kon'). Intermittent, if I try again, it usually works.

KDirLister (and KIO) cannot be used from secondary threads.

But IIRC Aaron fixed this recently in krunner?
Comment 27 Dario Andres 2010-03-23 18:10:42 UTC
Indeed, it was fixed on trunk (4.5):
http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revision&revision=1098125
(it just took me time to find the commit)

It is going to be backported to 4.4.x if it is proven to be good enough

krunner crash is supposed to be fixed in kde 4.4.2 but it happened again. Although I can admit that it happens much more rarely than before.

@Denys Smolianiuk: are your "kdebase-workspace" packages updated to 4.4.2 ?
Regasrds
Comment 33 Denys Smolianiuk 2010-04-10 18:45:36 UTC
Yes, I have "kdebase-workspace" and "kdebase-workspace-bin" version 4.4.2
Actually, I have installed all available lucid updates.

I can confirm, bug still exists in KDE 4.4.2.
My traceback attached.
Comment 35 Daniel Hahler 2010-05-01 18:04:41 UTC
Dario, are you sure this has been backported?

I cannot find http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revision&revision=1098125 in http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/4.4/kdebase/workspace/plasma/generic/runners/places/placesrunner.cpp?view=log&pathrev=1098125 (just looking at the date).

However, this might have been implemented differently in 4.4 - can you point me at the patch then, so I can check if it's in Ubuntu, please?

Hello: I came accross this one which may be the root cause of an important amount of dupes, which marking as dupes would be appreciated. Look at: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=236496#c1

Hopefully this is fixed in 4.4.5 if someone backport the fix from 4.5.

Regards,
