Description S. Christian Collins 2010-01-12 19:09:11 UTC
Version: KDE 4.4 RC1 (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

** Bug Description **
Under certain conditions, the minimize/maximize animation will zoom a window to/from the middle of the screen rather than its proper place in the taskbar.

** Bug Reproduction **
1) Make sure there are no open applications
2) Open Dolphin and minimize it. Repeat this step until you see the bug (it usually happens once the taskbar gets full)

** My System **
Motherboard: MSI K9N SLI Platinum (nForce 570 SLI chipset)
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 4000+ (2.6 GHz)
RAM: 2GB DDR2
Video: Dell NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX w/ 256 MB RAM (PCI Express)
OS: Kubuntu 9.10 i386 (with KDE 4.4 RC1)
Linux Kernel: 2.6.31-9-rt
NVIDIA driver: 185.18.36
X.org: 7.4

reassigning to Plasma as it's their task to provide a proper Icon geometry.

If the icon geometry is not set the minimize animation uses the center of the screen as starting/end point.

Btw that is a regression compared to 4.3. Animations?

I can confirm this. It seems pretty random from my perspective as to which windows are effected though it occurs more frequently in larger windows that are not Qt apps.

Opening or closing a window seems to toggle the bug randomly.

Using the normal Task Manager plasmoid on Arch Linux with KDEmod 4.4.0 and Nvidia 9300M GS (driver: 195.36.08)

Using KDE 4.4.1, this bug has been half-fixed (my reproduction example no longer works), but I still have the bug happen about once a day. I have yet to be able to narrow down a repeatable example, but I believe it happens sometimes when a single program opens more than one window (I've noticed it when running Thunderbird or GIMP).

I've been able to inconsistently reproduce the problem by opening Firefox & a Firefox history window, three copies of Dolphin, and then Kwrite. Sometimes I can get Kwrite to zoom to the wrong location, but it's never consistent. I've been able to trigger the bug on occasion by starting a new instance of Kwrite and then quickly closing the existing instance before the new instance shows up. I've never been able to trigger the bug with only one window open... I believe there need to be at least a few windows open for the bug to occur.

I can confirm the problem still exists in KDE 4.4.2 (tested using Kubuntu Lucid beta 2).
