Description tojo.rex 2009-12-06 00:13:03 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.4)
Compiler: gcc 4.4.2
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

Since upgrading from kde 4.3.3 to 4.3.4 and from qt-components 4.5.3 to 4.6, Every X startup (I use kdm) brings up the KDE CRASH Handler which reports that kded4 has crashed (signal 11). The button to restart the application brings up a new KDE Crash Handler with a new kded4 pid which has crashed. I've loaded the requisite packages with debugging enabled, and get to the last step to submit the crash report which then fails with "error sending the crash report: /unkown error./".

I've saved the crash report and would love to submit it if someone will show me how.

Please, don't attach backtraces. Paste them directly into the report:

Application that crashed: kded4
Version of the application: $Id: kded.cpp 1031638 2009-10-05 16:59:11Z lunakl $
KDE Version: 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4)
Qt Version: 4.6.0
Operating System: Linux 2.6.31-gentoo-r3 i686

What I was doing when the application crashed:
At each startup (Gentoo 2.6.31-gentoo-r3, gcc 4.4.2, kde 4.3.4, qt-componets 4.6), the KDE Crash Daemon appears reporting that kded4 has crashed (Signal 11). This began on 12-02-2009 after upgrading kde from 4.3.3 to 4.3.4 and upgrading qt-components from 4.5.3 to 4.6

Fixed in 4.4 trunk... bug 209582
Probably related to Qt4.6 (untested with KDE SC 4.3...)

Comment 4 tojo.rex 2009-12-07 16:58:54 UTC
Solved the problem. Neither root nor the desktop user were members of the plugdev group. Presumably this should have been a problem before, so I either kde 4.3.3 & qt 4.5.3 weren't as strict, or the plugdev membership was removed. I now Windows updates can do such thing, but Gentoo? Linux? KDE? Is it possible to do a forensic analysis and see if group membership was changed?
Comment 5 Dario Andres 2009-12-14 18:41:31 UTC
Thanks for the information, I can't really tell the reason of the crash as I'm not a developer, but in any case, it is fixed already now. Thanks
