Version: (using KDE 4.3.3) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages Konqueror has a "preload" option, which makes it start instantly. Dolphin currently takes a moment start, even on my quad core system. If one Dolphin window is already open, opening a new one occurs instantly. If an instance were always running in the background, it should have the same effect. I am not proposing you make this the default, but it would be nice to have an option for preloading, just like the one in Konqueror.

Pro!
Same here, using latest KDE neon. Would be great to see this implemented, as KDE nowadays represents the best option for a modern desktop environment. Also because I don't think this is really hard to realise, many other file managers have it, and also konqueror had this feature. Would happily "sacrifice" a little bit more ram for this huge ux improvement :) +1

As of KDE 5.27 it's not avaliable, could you add this to the wishlist for KDE 6? Dolphin would really benefit from some speed improvement at launch, it would be nice to have the same "preload" option as in Konqueror
