Now the 'sub folder' is not erased from KAB anymore but 'sub folder' does not appear in Kmail either so I am reopening this bug. Trunk, Svn Rev 1048496
Indeed I can reproduce it, and these days it seems even worse than that as on kontact restart, the KMail component stopped showing half of my mail folders in its tree... While they show up just fine in akonadiconsole, seems something KMail2 specific at play there.
Probably a bug somewhere in the models, adding Steve to the CC list. FWIW, I'm also having update problems with the folder list - Sometimes new folders don't appear, and deleted folders don't disappear.
Could this be related to bug #234160 (folder disappears on rename, needs separate subscription), and therefore possibly resolved in more recent KDE versions? Please confirm / deny this issue has been resolved.
