Description Ignacio Serantes 2009-10-10 19:30:25 UTC
Version: 2.2-GIT (using 4.3.1 (KDE 4.3.1) "release 169", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.1)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.27.29-0.1-default

When I put a japanese CD Amarok displays only ???? and not japanese characters.

I test this with 雨天決行 by 高田梢枝 and the CD ID is 0x3d6130c (obtained using Audex who reads songs correctly).

Seems to be another bad encoding detection bug.

Myriam, are you sure?. Bug 200596 was reported by me and is related to read ID3 tags. This one is relate to a real CD with a different infrastructure and reading method.

And I compiled Amarok with Cesar García patch and the patch don't solves this problem but fix ID3 encoding detection bug.

Probably is a bug in encoding detection, there is more in other parts in Amarok, for example in Shoutcast streams, but not all are the same bug :).

OK, there is just nothing I can do about that, and Peter is already very busy.

Could you please upgrade to a newer Amarok version and test again? Current is Amarok 2.4.0, Amarok 2.4.1 is to be released tomorrow.

Please report back.
Comment 7 Ignacio Serantes 2011-05-08 12:24:33 UTC
Bug is not fixed in 2.4.0 version. I don't use Amarok anymore but I will try to test this bug at least in 2.4.1 when packages will be available.

This is an automated message from the triager:

Amarok 2.4.1 has been released on May 8 already. Could you please upgrade and test if you can still reproduce this bug?

Without feedback within a month we will close this bug as resolved.

Thank you for your understanding.
Comment 10 Ignacio Serantes 2011-06-05 16:57:51 UTC
Bug still not fixed in Amarok 2.4.1. I done the test with the Japanese CD and additionally with a Korean CD:

雨天決行 (Takada Kozue) - 高田梢枝 (Uten Kekkou), the Japanese one

Setting appropriate component. Reporters, 2.5 and 2.6 beta was released, can you please test the bug is still there and reopen if yes? Thanks.
Comment 13 Ignacio Serantes 2012-07-03 14:15:21 UTC
Again, bug it's not magically fixed.
Comment 14 Myriam Schweingruber 2013-04-11 08:39:57 UTC
I presume this is still valid with Amarok 2.7?

Bug was not fixed
Comment 20 Myriam Schweingruber 2014-08-12 16:11:02 UTC
Thank you for the feedback. I had a similar problem in the past with a Russian CD not displaying the Cyrillic characters correctly, might be the same bug: bug 320388
