Description Panos Kavalagios 2009-09-28 08:29:44 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Fedora RPMs

I have my klipper configured as "Ignore selection" to off and "Synchronise contents of the clipboard and the selection" to simulate copy-on-select; to have a selection already copied without the need of pressing control-C or other shortcuts or options.

However, this behaviour seems to have worked fine only in KDE 3.5. In 4.X versions is a nightmare. Apart from bug 166606 and its duplicates, I really don't know why I have to press ctrl-c on some applications and on some others, like konsole, I have sometimes to click elsewhere and have the current selection deselected in order for the klipper to load it.

Choosing "Copy" from the "Edit" menu seems to work fine all the times. Not a convenient way at all, when copy-paste from one window to another is a often task for you.

We have had a number of reports of this. One cause has been identified as a broken version of Qt 4.5.2. Could you please check if that is the cause? The relevant bug is #199333

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

The strange copy-on-select behaviour is a very old sin of KDE 4, circa 4.1. I'd already read that report and it is unclear to me, which version of QT solves the issue reported.

I'm concentrating on copy-on-select feature that some times works and some others not. I haven't find any specific steps to reproduce the issue so far. I'll keep an eye on bug 199333 if the new version of qt solves the konsole issue as well. It seems to be related to the latest copy-paste problems.

Please, make a dupe and if it is something else, I will come up again with a new case reporting the application that still has issues.

Ok, I will. Happy hunting. The broken Qt version is 4.5.2, both 4.5.3 and 4.5.1 should be unaffected.
