Description Sascha Manns 2009-07-07 20:42:22 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

KDE 2.9.95 (4.3 RC1)

I've an strange Problem. If i select an Email in KMail and go to "Copy Link Adress", and move to another Application, the selected Link Adress doesn't pasted. This Error is in all Copy 'n Paste Functions in KDE. I tried to Copy anything from Firefox and paste it in KMail, that works. I think this is an Problem in KDE's Clipboard.

P.S.: Excuse my bad summary but i doesn't know how to explain this Feature :-)

Does copying any other random text between KDE apps works?
Is the "Klipper" application running ? If not, could you try running it ?
Thanks
Comment 2 Jörg von Frantzius 2009-07-08 22:12:18 UTC
Same here. It seems that Copy to clipboard from a KDE application puts garbage into the clipboard. When pasting into another application, just a few weird signs appear, and Thunderbird sometimes even crashed on pasting.

After a fresh login, this first works as normal. Just after a few copy&paste operations the problems start.

It also happened while running klipper. I tried to clear the clipboard using klipper then, but it still didn't work afterwards.
Comment 3 Jörg von Frantzius 2009-07-08 22:14:39 UTC
Sascha, what version of Qt are you using? On kde-linux it was suggested that the problem started with Qt 4.5.2, and that downgrading to Qt 4.5.1 does help. I can't try this myself, though.
Comment 4 Robin Atwood 2009-07-09 15:35:12 UTC
I think it is a Qt problem since it affects pure Qt apps as well. The problem was intermittent with Qt 4.5.1 and hard with 4.5.2. Klipper running (or not) does not seem to make any difference.
Comment 5 Anders Johansson 2009-07-11 09:57:44 UTC
opensuse 11.1 with kde 4.2.96-142.3 and QT 4.5.2-53.2

I had this problem with 4.2.95, but since the update to 4.2.96 I can copy/paste again
Comment 6 Sascha Manns 2009-07-17 11:41:11 UTC
After Update to 96 it runs perfectly :-)
Comment 7 Jörg von Frantzius 2009-07-17 15:00:56 UTC
I went away for me as well in between, but at least since 4.2.96-142-5 the problem is back again (opensuse 11.1)! libqt4 is 4.5.2-53.2 as well.
Comment 8 Denis Dzyubenko 2009-07-22 18:39:04 UTC
I believe this problem should be fixed with the following change in Qt that was pushed to the 4.5 branch:
http://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qt/commit/9e5fa633913ef952ca4ef5312fe396bcfc885321

(the problem was that sometimes XEvent that is received by Qt contains junk (some uninitialized fields in the XKeyPress event according to valgrind), and that junk was treated as a timestamp.

For all those "me too!"ing in the last few months, this bug has been (and still is) marked RESOLVED/FIXED since 2009-07-17.
Comment 14 Marc Lijour 2009-09-17 04:53:12 UTC
Yes. The solution seems to be in the first comments. The problem is that distros have not necessarily been updated Qt... (therefore people are still experiencing this, and if this is the case they should read this and follow up with their own distro bug reporting system).
