Version: (using KDE 4.3.1) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages Often when saving a file (such as text file created in Kate) one must navigate to a different folder for saving. If the user clicks on a Places folder, then please leave the keyboard focus on the Filename field, so that the user can start to immediately type the desired filename after selecting the folder. Thanks.
Here's the issue: both the file/folder view as well as the filename field are useful when they have keyboard focus. If the keyboard focus always stayed in the filename field, then you couldn't use the arrow keys to navigate the file/folder view, nor However, perhaps these functions are of reduced importance in the Save dialog compared to the open dialog, and it might be worth it. Or perhaps focus should switch to the filename field as soon as the user starts typing, with this behavior being user-selectable via the Settings menu. That way you could still use the arrow keys to navigate the file/folder list until the moment when you start typing.

I'd say this is a wontfix, the view having focus is useful as you can select dirs/files using the keyboard, just like any item view, when you start typing, it goes to the first file/folder with a name starting with the types letters.
