Description Janet 2009-09-05 17:04:15 UTC
Version: KDE 4.3.1 (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Strange and extremely nasty behaviour of taskmanager since update to KDE 4.3.1: it doesn't expand to full panel's width anymore, only has the width of one application button and only expands with adding more open applications. This leads to the problem that the following widgets in the panel now sit unmotivated somewhere around the middle of the panel instead at the right side - and they move when the taskmanager grows and shrinks! I tried taming this behaviour with a flexible spacer between taskmanager and widgets but this only lasts for one session. After a new login the spacer still is where it's ment to be but because of the tiny width of the taskmanager it moved to the left and the other widgets sit in the middle of the panel again. When I try to drag the spacer to a width that moves the following widgets to the left of the panel the spacer gets a fixed with and the task manager cannot expand at all.

It was perfectly fine with KDE 4.3.0: the whole panel was used by the taskmanager and at the right end of the panel there were my widgets like cpu monitor, clock, access to desktop and so on. Now it's not usable anymore, the space behind the widgets is not usable and it looks just terrible.

This is also caused by the eventlist plasmoid: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=107779

See Bug 206396, Bug 199028 and Bug 201350.

can you upload also a screenshot that describes the behaviour?

And the widgets after the taskmanager wander in the panel depending on the amount of open applications, independent from added spacers. The taskmanager cannot expand more than shown in picture two, apps get grouped though there seems to be enough space. The space behind the widgets on the left is not usable.

I can confirm this on Kubuntu Jaunty with KDE 4.3.2 and Debian Sid. The mentioned plasmoid hinders the taskmanager to expand to full panel width and the trash widget to keep its size but cures the scrollbar on the desktop. So maybe all these functions are related?

Do you reproduce with kde 4.4.4 or 4.5 beta ?
