Description James Richard Tyrer 2009-09-01 07:00:25 UTC
Version: 0.9 (using Devel)
Compiler: GCC-4.3.3
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

A NEF file (Nikon raw file) contains the raw RGBG image and a JPG thumbnail. The same is true of a DNG file. I tired to open a NEF file in Okular and the image quality was rather poor. So, I converted it to DNG with the converter and tried to open that file. It looked about the same. I used dcraw to make a PPM file which looks much better. After further research, I am fairly certain that the problem is that Okular is displaying the JPG thumbnails rather than converting and opening the file.

Hi.

Thanks for reporting this issue.

I don't think we support DNG or NEF formats. Possibly they are coming in via the kimgio or tiff backends.

Can you advise how you opened them? Was it explicit opening with okular (e.g. from the okular file menu) or was okular the default application via some other application (e.g. file manager double-click).

KDE-4.3.1 appears to have open in KolourPain & Okular as the default right click options for DNG & NEF. I opened them from Konqueror if that matters.

I also tried them in KolourPaint and with the same result. So, it is quite possible that the actual problem is in KDELibs.
