Description MisterE 2009-08-25 23:55:41 UTC
Version: 1.3 (using 4.3.00 (KDE 4.3.0), Debian packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.30-1-amd64

when i use the breadcrumb menu and i edit the path, then to location bar keeps put in the "edit" mode. I like it to automatically go back to breadcrumb mode when i press enter.
I know i can change it with CTRL-L but that is not handy.

When the focus is on the line edit, you can also press "ESC".
Comment 2 MisterE 2009-08-26 10:24:13 UTC
i don't understand. What i want is that the location bar starts as a breadcrumb menu. When i need to change the path witch hand i click at the location bar. After the "enter" it stays in the "edit" mode. i like it to return to breadcrumb mmode

Yes, I've understand. Meanwhile I've simply suggested you a way to go back to the bradcrumb. Nothing more, nothing less :-)
Comment 4 FiNeX 2009-08-26 10:58:24 UTC
Anyway after pressing "ENTER" the "ESC" key doesn't bring back the breadcrumb, you're right :-)

Pressing Ctrl+Return instead of Return might be a solution which is fine for your usecase.

However it is not possible to change the default behavior, as this would break the behavior for people that want to stay in the editable mode (and there are usecases for staying into this mode, although I personally also more often need the editable mode only temporary). So if Ctrl+Return is no sufficient solution for you, we'd keep this wish open so that other people can vote for it too.
Comment 6 MisterE 2009-08-27 12:04:13 UTC
well, this behaviour does not to be default. A option in the settings screen would be nice.

What about introducing a "sticky" button in place of the "switch back to breadcrumb" button (as that won't be necessary anymore)...

The default behavior would be to automatically switch back - therefore providing the easiest user interaction for the most common/standard usecases, whereas some more advanced/infrequent usecases might require an extra click. (That's definitely more logical than the other way round!)

In addition, if the content of the location edit field would be remembered between multiple visits to the edit mode (as long as the current directory hasn't changed, of course), the number of usecases which need permanent edit mode would further decrease (or even be completely eliminated).

In addition, CTRL+ENTER could be made to also keep the edit mode open, without entering permanent sticky state (whereas simply ENTER would of course follow the sensible default behaviour of automatically switching back)
