Description dolgener 2009-06-28 15:45:45 UTC
Version: v0.9.7 (using 3.5.10, Debian Package 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-2 (squeeze/sid))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.26ed2009-03-14ed

The KDE desktop still lacks an easy desktop-wide management for text snippets one wants to use very frequently (and without typos e.g. in long phone numbers).
The only existing application, kpreg, seems unstable and lacks functionality (registering hotkey, autostart in tray, narrowing "search by type" as klipper does!).
GNOME's analogue 'glipper' offers a snippet plugin, but cannot be used from KDE.
To keep things simple, klipper would be predestined to simply merge a list of constant entries (from a plain text file like ~/.kde/share/apps/klipper/snippets.txt) into its set of clipboard entries. From there they could be easily recalled into Clipboard by typing klipper's hotkey and a few significant characters and/or selected from the remaining list, then pasted where needed.
This way, accessing snippets or clipboard history would perfectly integrate into the same workflow!
