Description Ian Brock 2009-06-19 14:16:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I have several events that repeat each week. At some point these events are no longer displayed in the calendar. Looking at the event list I see that the events are still there, but the start date has been moved to today. Thsi effect seemed to be random.
However, I think I have found some logic behind it. When events with recurrence for the future are added things are fine. If I have an event that started on 2009-04-17 and I then open my calendar for today 2009-06-19, then the event is now shown as starting on 2009-06-19 and ending on 2009-04-17.
It is therefore not displayed in the week view. This means that as the week goes on more and more of my weekyl evetnms disappear and my agenda gets emptier and emptier!
Note that such events then crash kpilot (maybe it should get more protection).
I am looking at the calendar directly as an Akonadi resource. As far as I can tell the corresponding .ics file is not being updated, although this does worj for the addressbook.

So, the ics file has correct dates, and only in akonadi you see end < start ?
Comment 2 Ian Brock 2009-06-20 12:06:41 UTC
No, the ics fie is not updated at all - that I could even send as a 2nd
bug.

Comment 3 Ian Brock 2009-06-22 13:28:10 UTC
I tried doing things the other way round. I exported the Akonadi database to an ics file, removed the akonadi database entry (from the server and korganizer), added it again to the server from the file and used the file in korganizer. The same effect is seen though. When I opened my calendar for today, all recurring events from today had disappeared as their starting dates are now 2009-06-22 and the end date is still 2009-01-05. These dates are also put in the .ics file. I can edit the file by hand to set the dates correctly, but after starting korganizer, exiting and starting again the dates are again corrupted.
Switching views is also sometiomes sufficient to corrupt the date. IU correct them in "Event List" and when I switch back to "Week" they are messed up.
I also tried a single event in a separate .ics file (without synchronising the the akonadi server). That does not seem to get corrupted. I need the akonadi database though, as I also synchronise my calendar with my palm treo.
I also updated KDE to 4.2.4, but this does not seem to have helped.

I think I have the same problem. My recurring events keep on disappearing. At first I thought KOrganizer just "eats" them but then I found this bug report and searched for these recurring events. They are still there. The problem is that the dates are messed up. The end dates are still okay, just the start dates are now set on today (or sometimes a day in the future). I had this problem with 4.2.4 and now also with 4.3rc1 (Kubuntu packages).
I recently updated to 4.3rc1 and when I first started KOrganizer all the recurring events were there again, so I thought it was fixed. So I edited my calendar a little more yesterday, everything seemed to be fine, but when I started it today all of the recurring events were gone again (dates messed up).
Comment 5 Ian Brock 2009-07-05 12:36:04 UTC
This problem is still happening and I think I now understand the
systematics. It is also a korganizer problem and not akonadi, I think, as
I see the problem occuring also for a spearate calendar with a single test
event that recurs once a week.

During the day that the event should happen, the start date keeps getting
set to that date. A day later I can set the start date back again (using
the Event List) and it reappears in the Week view.

I hope this can get fixed soon. It is very irritating. As a result I do
not get any reminders for recurring events on the day that they actually
happen!

Regards, Ian

*** Bug 198980 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 7 Sergio Martins 2009-07-05 14:26:08 UTC
I can't reproduce this, here's what I did:

- Created a new file resource
- Created a weekly recurring event with start=04-july-2009-14:00 and ending 1 hour later (Today is 05-july-2009), the event recurs on saturdays.
- Restarted korganizer and the event is still there.
- Edited the description (as suggested in bug 198980 and the event is still there

Can you reproduce this with daily events?

Please tell step by step what to do, include all event's dates and times, and your current date and time when reproducing the problem.

Use a file resource.
Comment 8 Ian Brock 2009-07-05 18:16:59 UTC
I did the folllowing:

On 2009-06-20 I created a test event on 2009-06-21 that lasted 1 hour and
repeated weekly.

On 2009-06-21 the event was still there (as you reported).

On 2009-06-28 the event's start date was set to 2009-06-28. After setting
it back again on 2009-06-29, the event was visible in the week view until
today. Again today it has the start date set to 2009-07-05.

That is why I first reported that it seemd to be associated with akonadi.
Maybe the problem only occurs on the first repetition and not on the first
occasion.

I have not tried a daily event. I will do that today and can report on
Tuesday or Wednesday on what happened.

Test Calendar File

Test daily repeat events messed up.
Comment 10 Ian Brock 2009-07-08 09:07:44 UTC
The problem also happens for events which repeat daily. I created 2 repeat events on 6 July that started on 7 July and then repeat daily until the end of August. On 7 July the events were shown correctly, but today the starting date is set to 8 July and the event on 7 July is no longer shown. I created one of the events with an alarm and the other without an alarm, but that does not make any difference.

I enclose my test calendar file, where you can see what happened.

The daily repeat events are even more interesting! Not only does the start date always get moved to today; the repeat events slowly disappear (from the week view) in the following weeks! Now that the daily event has been repeating for a week, only the repeat events (in the following weeks) on Sunday continue to be visible. Yesterday those on Saturday and Sunday were visible etc

Same here under OpenSUSE 11.1 (As I mentioned in the duplicate)
I am not using a Akonadi Resource. Just a plain .ics file.
Comment 14 Sergio Martins 2009-07-14 22:43:35 UTC
Which timezone do you guys have configured in korganizer, and which one do you have configured in systemsettings?

Korganizer: Europe/Berlin
Systemsettings: Europa/Berlin (Which should be the same ;-) )
Comment 16 Ian Brock 2009-07-15 10:42:56 UTC
I also have the time zone in both cases set to
Europe/Berlin

Comment 17 Andreas Ermler 2009-07-15 16:31:09 UTC
At the moment I think I have set the timezone to Europe/Berlin in both cases but probably in my calendar file there are some events with different timezones because I lived in a different timezone for a while. But I will check exactly when I have access to my computer again.
Comment 18 Ian Brock 2009-11-03 13:52:05 UTC
I am fairly sure the problem is with the kontact planner. I installed karmic from scratch and the problem was still there! I then turned off the planner and no longer have any problems (for more than 1 day so far). A further indication is that if I just start korganizer, the problem does not happen and if I start kontact and do not go automatically to the summary page at the beginning the problem also does not happen.

Comment 19 Denis Kurz 2016-09-24 18:47:19 UTC
This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of korganizer (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 20 Denis Kurz 2017-01-07 22:47:25 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
