Description Aaron 2009-06-13 14:31:03 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.2.4)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Debian stable Packages

Plasma effects for the alt-tab command become disfunctional after the computer was put in standby mode (often more than two times). The command continues to work, however it switches to the standard display of open files. This can not be reset in the desktop settings until the computer has a full restart. Then complete functionality is restored. Operating system is Ubuntu with KDE desktop.

this is probably a HW/driver issue (the 3d engine isn't brought up again)
-> used HW + driver

(you can try to disable checks in the advanced tab, but be prepared for issues - i.e. you might have to hard reset your machine, make sure you won't loose any data)

compositing has been suspended during standby (there's somewhere a bug report for that...). You can just use alt+shift+f12 to get your effects back.

Excellent,
 That did the trick. After the first response, I realized it was the entire
3d driver issue. I also lost quick desktop display with the issue. After
using the alt-shift-f12, full functionality was restored. Thanks for the
rapid response. I am new to using ubuntu (tried suse in 2002 and switched
back to windows). I am surprised at the functionality today, and now the
rapid support. I will highly suggest this to everyone I know, and when I am
no longer unemployed (hence the time to try a new OS), I will donate a
little to the KDE/ubuntu fund. Again, thanks a lot!!

Regards,
Aaron
