Description Maciej Pilichowski 2009-05-16 12:48:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

This wish go further than simple notification of getting the mail of the recipient.

I explain how I imagine this feature by example:
I write a mail to a friend and I would like to get an answer for that. Normally my friend should be able to answer within 3 days. So I set "reminder" for the reply for 5 days (safety). I send mail, and I can forget about it. If in 5 days I get the reply, you won't tell a difference comparing to current KMail.
But if I _don't_ KMail would notify me (how, it is another story) that I have unanswered mail.

Several things could occur:
a) he didn't get my mail
b) I didn't get his
c) he forgot to answer
d) he get it by it landed in spam folder, and so on...

In my case it is usually (c) so it would help me coordinate the discussions. But of course network traffic reliability here is also an issue.

Possible options:
* list of friends with "sticky" reminders (for this guy set reminder by default to 2 days)
* the way of notifying user of unanswered mail -- internal mail (my preferred choice) with important flag, or KDE notify system...

Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented.
Thank you for your understanding.

Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2.

Very interesting wishlist.
Still applies to kmail2. Don't know about what's the right component, though.

This is the second of (at least) two special cases of a response reminder:
1. Remind me, so I don't forget to answer a received mail.
2. Remind me, so I don't forget to insist on a response to a mail send by myself.
Both could be realized with some special preset of a new To-do/Reminder item minimizing user interaction. So basically such presets are what we need.

(This could perfectly integrate with some kind of auto-reminder feature, which would be based on filter actions. Actually, any kind of automation requires sensible presets reducing user interaction. Therefore I propose to mark this one blocking Bug #252402 and Bug #46136)

Implement as ReminderFollowupAgent. in 4.14.3
