Description Alex Sidorenko 2009-03-10 16:12:10 UTC
Version:           4.2.1 (using KDE 4.2.1)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

After upgrade to 4.2.1 the screensaver always locks the screen and requires the password to stop, even if I uncheck this option in Screensaver Settings.

This is not Ubuntu-specific; I see the same on OpenSUSE11.1, once again after upgrade to 4.2.1 (everything worked normally with 4.2.0).

kscreensaverrc file looks normal:

[ScreenSaver]
Enabled=true
Lock=false            <-------- set properly
LockGrace=299000
PlasmaEnabled=false
Saver=krandom.desktop
Timeout=900
Comment 1 Alex Sidorenko 2009-03-13 16:10:12 UTC
After some additional experimentation it seems that it ignores all other settings either - if I configure Timeout to be 30 minutes, the screensaver still starts after 15 minutes.

Apparently something called PowerDevil is causing this.

Disable it in System Setting>Advanced>KDE Services Configuration>Startup Services and then uncheck PowerDevil.

Comment 3 Alex Sidorenko 2009-03-17 13:25:57 UTC
Hello Bob,

I confirm that this worked for me, but I consider this just a workaround for a real bug, which still needs to be fixed.

Thanks,
Alex

disabling powerdevil did not work for me my screen still locks. i have made power setting performance, i have put if screen is idle to do nothing, i have changed everything that has anything to do with the screen locking to disabled, nothing has worked

This happens to me on 4.3.1
Comment 7 Ken Rushia 2009-10-06 23:27:16 UTC
Confirmed here. I think. There are so many bugs related to display power :P

My monitor blanks randomly, originally it seemed to be every ten minutes, but it isn't constant. When it happens, the light on my Viewsonic monitor is still green, which makes me think it is the "Blank screen" screensaver and not display power settings.

It has happened while watching videos before too. This is also random. About 10% of the times I watch a video, the player fails to override whatever is doing this.

the original report was confirmed to be powerdevil interfering (which makes it a duplicate).
the other reports need to be re-checked by the reporters and filed separately if still occurring. one unaccounted for source of confusion might be an xscreensaver running in the background - i once saw this myself.

As from the last comment from Oswald, I'm closing this bug as fixed, as this issue (double power management) was fixed in 4.7.
