Version: (using KDE 4.2.0) Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package Dolphin can save current view settings (are previews enabled?, etc.). This doesn't work for my external HDD with its FAT-filesystem: While for example my home folder and even a mounted CD/DVD remember those settings, the external HDD does not.
Could you please post the URL of your FAT-filesystem here? You can achieve this by right clicking on the "breadcrumb" (= location bar), selecting 'Copy' and pasting it into this bug report. Thanks!
Sure, that would be file:///media/LaCie. Mabye it has nothing to do with the filesystem, this is just the only difference to other media I've plugged in/inserted I can think of. I would have checked if it worked with a another filesystem, but I own only one external HDD.
I've added David to CC, maybe knows more about the possible root cause. I need to check this myself first be getting an external FAT HDD, so that I can debug this...

The reporter of bug 187773 noted that the view mode is remembered for NTFS partitions, but not for FAT. I can confirm this with 4.2.1 and trunk using my (internal) hard drive.
I can also confirm this in kde 4.2.1 dolphin 1.2.1 of kubuntu jaunty. It doesn't remember the folder view settings of my fat formatted external usb hard drive (even though remember view properties is chosen in dolphin settings).
Reproducible on trunk revision 958058.
The same here - SUSE 11.2 (Factory), KDE 4.3.1, Dolphin 1.3.

Problem still exists in KDE 4.5.1.
I was not able to reproduce this with KDE 4.6.3, Qt 4.7.3 and a USB stick formated to fat32. Could you please retry?

At BUG:243414 especially comment #2 is of interest if this still is a problem. So please also try to reproduce with a newer version.

Can't reproduce it using KDE SC 4.9 . Mark it as fixed.
