Version: Version 1.11.0 (using KDE 4.2.0) OS: Linux Installed from: SuSE RPMs Since the new kmail version is in kde4.2 it crashes often when I access any of my 4 imap mailboxes: "The application KMail (kmail) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV). " If it does not crash it will not display the mail text of a mail header I select. This is described already in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=181273 Reverting to kde 4.1.3 the older version of kmail runs just fine with exactly the same kmail configuration. -- Will this KDE 4 hell for a user finally end some day? I am short before going to gnome, really.
As you can reproduce the crash at will, may you read http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports and post a complete backtrace here? This may be related to some unique thing in your configuration Thanks :)
I moved my old .kde4 dir away and started from screatch (took only 2 hours to get all settings back :-) ). With this brand new setup kmail does not crash any longer, so it seems to be a problem related to existing settings from older KDE versions. My .kde4 has a long update history starting with kde3.5, moving to 4.1.x version to 4.2 beta and rc and finally to 4.2. But kmail is the only application that showed problems, and only the latest version of kmail. As I said reverting to 4.1.3 using the very same .kde4 directory did work just fine. The problem is, I did not find a SuSE kmail-RPM with debugging enabled so I cannot provide a useful backtrace.
Try looking into kdepim4-debuginfo and kdepimlibs4-debuginfo packages (BTW: in this cases that the crash may be settings related, it's better to only move your .kde4/ dir to another place instead of deleting it completely... as you can test if this was really settings related, and If it doesn't, you can get all your configuration back. Also, you can post the "faulty" setting file here to investigate why it causes the crash) Thanks
I installed the two debuginfo-packages mentioned by Dario, then moved my old .kde4.old directory back to .kde4 and then logged on into kde4. The strange thing is, that kmail now does not show any problem or crash. It just works just the way it did when i started with a fresh .kde4 directory. I did not change the software setup (except for the two debuginfo packages). Initially the crash was reproducible any time I tried now it has completely gone away. So now this bug report is no longer valid. Thanks to all who answered.
