When I do a regular exit from kmail the kmail window disappears but the kip_imap4 processes for my 4 imap Mailboxes do not terminate. 

After the exit from kmail a ps -ayxuw|grep imaps shows:

Restarting kmail in this state seems to work, however if at the end of the day I exit from kmail, then put my system to suspend to disk and the next day start it again, kmail shows strange behaviour eg it hangs when I try to access one of my mailboxes. If I kill the old kio_imap4 processes and then start kmail it often shows the mail header lines but if I click on one such mailhreader the mail text is *not* shown. The mail text area in kmail stays simply empty no matter which mail I select. Doing a series of exits and kills on the kio_imap4 processes eventually will fix this problem, but is a little annoying. This did not happen using kmail from the stable KDE 4.1.3 version.
