Version: (using KDE 4.1.96) OS: Linux Installed from: SuSE RPMs Search in the KDE4 Kickoff menu returns duplicates of all/(most?) items. This is reproducibly seen with KDE4 Kickoff menu, but NOT in Lancelot widget menu. i'm running: opensuse 11.1 uname -a Linux server 2.6.27.7-9-xen #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux with Version 4.1.96 (KDE 4.1.96 (KDE 4.2 RC1)) "release 78.1" all are fully updated from the repos. I've previously submitted more info @: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=468696). Also, this has been reported previously as a KDE bug: "KDE menu has many duplicates" http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=170500 but, for the OP, was RESOLVED with no cause determined.
Same problem here in KDE 4.2 with opensuse 11.1
Created attachment 30792 [details] duplicate search results in kickoff menu I also confirm this on kde 4.2 in opensuse 11.1
i never saw this and also can't confirm this with selfcompiled trunk
I've got the same problem after updating to KDE 4.2 on opensuse 11.1

This is no longer producible after latest update.
(In reply to comment #7) > This is no longer producible after latest update. The update did resolve the majority of duplicates. Unfortunately, there are duplicates still for all applications installed via CrossOver Linux (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxlinux/). (I have Microsoft Office and Visio installed via CrossOver.)
Then crossover is installing desktop files with different names... look into the dirs listed by the following commands, and find those that were created by crossover: kde4-config --path xdgdata-apps kde4-config --path apps (legacy dirs)
I'm had the same issue with Opensuse 12.3, linux 3.10 and KDE 4.10. It turned out the 'applications' plugin was loaded twice in krunner. I solved it as follows: Open krunner Click on wrench icon uncheck one of the two loaded 'applications' plugins
