the dolphin issue is something else entirely, you're seeing double entries because there are, well, double entries for the apps on disk somewhere. installation issue.
Actually, everything is installed just once. the alt+f2 search does show everything once properly. If there some command to output wherever it's grabbing data from to confirm there is only one entry let me know and I'll post the log.
krunner only shows unique results, since it can get multiple hits for broad search terms even when things are only installed once. this prevents it from showing multiple results even when there is an installation mess up. the menu is required to just show what's in the structure, however.

Same here... despite of single entrie under kde menu when using the search engine on "kickoff" the result shows duplicate entries .... the same is not happen with krunner , which it's working really good.. openSuse 11.1 kde 4.1.96..Factory
I think it also affects more stuff in KDE. e.g. here, in System Settings both Default Applications and File Associations have duplicate entries. Also, might this be an OpenSUSE specific bug? I am getting the same issue on openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.2 from the Factory. Apparently it was not solved before release. Occasionally I get the same behavior in KRunner (every entry shows up twice.).
Tried reinstalling and the problem remains OS: Linux 2.6.27.7-9-default i686 KDE: 4.2.00 (KDE 4.2.0) "release 83.1"
