Precondition: Configure KMail... -> Misc -> "When entering a folder:" is set to "Jump to First New Message". Expected behavior (like in KDE 3.5): (a) When entering a folder that contains "new" messages, the message list jumps to the first "new" message. (b) When entering a folder that contains only "read" messages, the message list jumps to the last viewed message. (c) When entering a folder that contains "read" and "unread" but not "new" messages, the message list jumps to the last viewed message. Actual behavior (KMail from KDE 4.2 rc1): (a) and (b) work as expected. (c) When entering a folder that contains "read" and "unread" but not "new" messages, the message list jumps to the first "unread" message. (c) would be the expected behavior if "When entering a folder:" was set to "Jump to First New or Unread Message", however, it behaves the same way with the "Jump to First New Message" (without "unread") that I have selected. A fix for that bug would be lovely.
Is this bug still present in a more recent kmail version? It is very related to bug 176104, that is already fixed (but could not be fixed in 4.2 rc1).
The bug that I described is still present in KMail from 4.2.0 (final). I remember the bug you mentioned, that one has indeed been fixed for quite a while now (was only present in the early betas, I believe).
Hm... any reason why kdepim is not even CC'd by default when I open a KMail bug? Reassigning from the bugsquad, I feel sufficiently sure about this.

Hello, just reporting same behavior occurs on Kmail 1.12.4 (KDE SC 4.3.5 - Kubuntu 9.10+backports). I'll try to check on KDE SC 4.4 (Kubuntu 10.04 alpha2) tonight and report my findings.
I couldn't install Kubuntu 10.04 alpha2 so I upgraded my KDE SC 4.3 from Kubuntu 9.10 backports repositories. Same issue in Kmail 1.13.0 on KDE SC 4.4.00.
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2. We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
