Comment 1 Oliver Putz 2008-11-05 23:12:59 UTC
Hi and thanks for your bugreport.

Let me guess: You use an nvidia card (and their binary driver)? If so, I guess you stubled across bug #174037?
Comment 2 albert 2008-11-05 23:31:27 UTC
No, my card is Ati Radeon 9200 Pro and I use the open source xf86-video-ati driver
Comment 3 Oliver Putz 2008-11-05 23:51:08 UTC
Hm, ok. Then thanks for that info already. Can you reproduce the crash? If so, could you have a look at http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports, try to install the debugging packages for your distribution and post another (more verbose) backtrace for the crash? If you cannot reproduce the crash, can you tell us what you were doing right before the crash?
Comment 4 Bruno Scheele 2008-11-06 22:51:57 UTC
KMix crashed with the same debug message as albert's report. I also use an ATI Radeon card, the Mobility X1600 if I'm correct (it came with the Asus A6Ja laptop, if you want to check).

The crash happened during the installation of the FGLRX drivers through the 'Hardware Drivers' application supplied with the latest Kubuntu. I did this nearly immediately after a fresh installation from CD of Kubuntu.
I've installed Kubuntu from the same CD twice now, and it happened both times during the installation of the FGLRX driver.

Hope this helps. I'm not confident enough in my Linux skills to install debug packages and reproducing the error again without reinstalling again.

it happens after apt upgrade
Comment 6 shentino 2008-11-13 04:06:32 UTC
I got this bug too. Radeon 9600
Comment 7 Andrea Fabretto 2008-11-15 11:36:04 UTC
Hi! I got it too.
I just installed kubuntu 8.10 on a brand new hw: after installation (in english, italian kbd layout) I just added a second language (italian) suggested by the system (via a turned on light bulb - it's my first kde4 installation :) ), then I activated prorietary drivers for my graphics cards and at this point (i don't remember if after or while installing) kmix crashed... oh, yeah... I used main kde menu too.

My hw:
AMD athlon x2 5600+, mobo ASUS M3A78 Pro (bios v0601, integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 gpu), RAID 1 (from mobo ctrl), 2 sata disk, 1 ide cdrom, 4gb dual channel ddr2 (corsair)... if you need any other information just write me.

I too have the same problem with an ATI X300 video card while attempting to install the ATI drivers on a fresh Kubuntu 8.10 system.

I'm not so sure that this bug is a duplicate of 160221. That bug involves mounting and unmounting of usb devices. This seems to revolve around Radeon Drivers and apt updates.
Just my 2 cents.

That said here is my report of the matter.

Was about to shutdown my laptop and noticed there were updates available.
apt-get upgrade showed the following available:
amarok-nightly-kdebase amarok-nightly-kdelibs amarok-nightly-kdesupport
  consolekit cups cups-bsd cups-client cups-common fglrx-amdcccle
  fglrx-kernel-source fglrx-modaliases hal-info libck-connector0 libcups2
  libcups2-dev libcupsimage2 libpam-ck-connector libpq-dev libpq5 libqt4-assistant
  libqt4-core libqt4-dbg libqt4-dbus libqt4-designer libqt4-help libqt4-network
  libqt4-opengl libqt4-qt3support libqt4-script libqt4-sql libqt4-sql-mysql
  libqt4-svg libqt4-test libqt4-webkit libqt4-xml libqt4-xmlpatterns libqtcore4
  libqtgui4 libxine1 libxine1-bin libxine1-console libxine1-ffmpeg
  libxine1-misc-plugins libxine1-x qt4-qtconfig sudo xorg-driver-fglrx

I chose to update everything and then went about my business with tasks around the house. Maybe 20 - 30 minutes later I come back because my cdrom drive is spinning very loudly. I hit the touchpad to bring the screen back to life, hit F12 to bring down yakuake, updates have finished, then eject the disc. KMix crashes with SIGABRT 6.

Here is my backtrace:

Application: KMix (kmix), signal SIGABRT
